Larry is spot on. Hell's Kitchen was VERY rough in those days. My girlfriend and I had an insanely small studio apartment at the epicenter of that neighborhood (we had an old piece of plywood we would put over the tub as a makeshift kitchen counter). We were good kids in our 20s trying to make our mark in The Big Apple. Together or apart, to ensure our safety, the local drug dealer gang would graciously escort us to and from our apartment to Times Square (not that it was much safer then). We were not their customers. They just liked us and we were not judgemental about their present chosen profession.

I am without speech (yes, a "Seinfeld" reference🤣). Seriously, though, I cannot thank you enough for this presentation (I was tempted to describe it as "spectacular"😉), Mr. Geist❣ "Seinfeld" certainly was "the most popular comedy in the history of television," as you so beautifully phrased it. The "show about nothing" is something else, as the expression goes, to so many of us. This sitcom was one-of-a-kind, as is Larry David. I am very happy to be able to say that, incidentally, as was Jerry Seinfeld, I was born on Long Island (which gives me a sense of camaraderie, so to speak). Best wishes, Andrea S.

Many of these "bad" neighborhoods in NYC from 20, 30 years ago are now so gentrified, hip, and expensive. This is true for many other big cities. Like in LA, downtown area just east of I-5 was the garment district in 1980's and 1990's, with cheap apartment buildings and some homeless ppl around. Now you go there and it's all shiny high-rise office buildings and million dollar condos. Where did all those low-income residents and homeless go? And some wonder why there are more homeless ppl in their neighborhoods than ever...
