Larry Grayson 31 August 1923 - 7 January 1995, was a comedian and television presenter who was best known in the 1970s and early 1980s on the BBC's popular series The Generation Game and for his high camp and English music hall humour.
Larry Grayson was known for camp stand-up acts consisting mainly of anecdotes about a cast of imaginary friends; the most frequently mentioned were Everard, Apricot Lil and Slack Alice. He is often cited as one of the first gay entertainers to have enjoyed mass appeal, although he never made any reference to his sexuality.

Living alone in London all those years ago and sometimes feeling lonely I would look forward to watching him on a Saturday night. It was like having a friend come into the room. You couldn't dislike him for a second. And over the years I have a feeling of affection for him even after all this time. To look at the grave and think of the personality of the man was sad to see really. For a child to be put into some one else's hands at the age of ten he must have wondered why he was unlovable. I felt proud to see him standing alongside his Rolls Royce and felt ' well done Larry. You did do well'

My parents were in the Entertainment Business - professional musician and professional singer, and my father spoke warmly and very highly of Larry Grayson. He told stories of the times he and my mother had met Mr. Grayson, and what a thoroughly lovely chap he was. This made a huge impression on me and from that time, I too loved Larry. I blinkin' adored him on The Generation Game, and no one could replace him. He truly was THE best. May he live on, entertaining those who, like him, have passed on, and may my father and mother both be included in the great audience in the sky. *Truly fabulous report* .... thank you for the share! ~ Cobs.

I just want to make a personal statement that 20 years ago I worked with another businessman who was very camp and in the closet, who eventually ended up hanging himself at the age of 42, so sad that even his mother did not totlay understand him. I can honestly say that I was his true friend and tried to help him. People like Larry make a difference by standing out and proving it's not wrong. He sent a big message and did a lot of good and spread happiness. I sent my love to both. Alan

His house never used to look like that. It was white and had a flag pole in the front of the house and when he was home the flag was raised. The whole property has had a complete facelift and was a usual 1940’s detached property. He also lived here with his spinster sister. I know this because I use to be his sisters hairdresser. ❤

Hello Gillian, I never in real life say these kind of things very often, but I do believe them. I used to read loads of psychology in my 20s. It was my favourite subject so I just thought because some of the lives are a bit of a disaster. It's the right moment sometimes to bring this out and try and put things in perspective but I'm still not preaching. We all do as we wish. I just think it might help somebody somewhere. Thank you ever so much kind of you. Alan

Great video for a great entertainer. I found Larry very funny, infact when I see old clips sometimes on tv of the Generation Game I actually find him even funnier than I did back in the day, because let’s face it most true camp comics are all on the other side of the veil now , so yes I used to find Larry funny now I find him hilarious! Just a bit of info I did hear he moved to Torquay or Torbay , to retire but he could never settle down there so he came back to Nuneaton. How true I don’t know but that story rings a bell. The photo you showed with his rolls looks very similar to that bungalow you showed , although it looks more like a big house lol, but it does look like it could be the place. Like you say if I had that kinda money I wouldn’t live on a main road myself. Anyway great video , Alan as usual and thanks. When I was an extra I got to know June Brown quite well who played Dot Cotton and I actually went to her house a few times when she lived in South Croydon , although she moved to Surrey more in the country , but never went there, but I did her and her family’s astrological charts . Great woman. She maybe a good character to do but unfortunately I don’t know where she is buried or if cremated where. I did hear through the grapevine she wanted to be buried at sea , due to her navy roots, so that would be a bit awkward to film that one in the middle of an ocean. I will try and do a bit of research and see. Anyway take care and keep filming ❤️ John

Absolutely John. All that stuff about The English Riviera was true but I liked a bit with June. She was such a character. I remember watching that on a chat show with lady Gaga they got on like a house on fire. I watched her on the program West The royal trying to get fit and she smoked like a chimney but she was in the 90s at that point so they really wasn't a reason for it to be on that program but she was funny. This has got nothing to do with it but I saw some street art in Greece under a tunnel and it's 100% dot. Truly, I'll send you the picture and see what you think. She's smoking a cigarette And it's either an enormous coincidence or somebody in Greece like the character? Nice memories for you. Maybe if we meet one day you can tell me. Take care, Alan

Just so sad, that the JOY these folks give are forgotten so quickly!?😭 So many of the "Resting Places" of so many FAMOUS people , lie, Sad n Neglected! I wonder how also..why their Families neglect them so!?? If anyone..it's the Fans' that lay flowers n tributes! Aye..we have our time..then into the echelons of history! Fondly remembered..easily FORGOT!😭

I do agree with you sometimes. Caroline, it makes me sad on some of them. It seems almost that once they're gone People seem to forget so quickly quite often, which is sad and like you say, especially with the families. And it's the one thing that gives me great pleasure from the films. It brings it back to us all that remember them. Thank you for your lovely comment

great tribute. I thought Larry was funny, tongue in cheek, but never imo offensive, I think knowing him as a friend, must have been lovely. Flowers Paul is a good idea, it’s a shame some gravesnlook forgotten, but that’s life I suppose!

Sadly the house you have shown wasn’t Larry Graysons house. He lived along that road and a few doors down from the property shown. He later moved into a bungalow nearer to the town centre.

Correct - wrong house !!!! It was much smaller and not so done up and modern.

Yes, I also noticed it’s the wrong house. It was a few doors on from this. The house has changed though since Larry and his sister lived there. It’s been extended quite a bit. But still recognisable as Larrys old house. He moved into a bungalow after he came back from living in Torquay for a couple of years. Neither he or Fan could settle there.

@@jackierc1 Yes it is a few doors up from that incorrect house - if you stop and look you can recognise it even with the alterations.Time flies.

He moved to a bungalow after he returned from a brief time in Torquay. He never settled down there. The house you show I believe was heavily rebuilt with two houses built where there had been one with a large garden
