You need other great fighters to make you great you often train with them, have them train you, train a fighter that is fighting you and/or fight them yourself. Beating an old Larry Holmes is no great achievement for a great fighter just like beating an old slow Ali was no achievement for Holmes. Tyson didn’t need any extra motivation to beat a 38 year old Holmes that had been retired for 2 years after losing twice to Michael Spinks who Tyson knock out in seconds. 🙄
