In my opinion it was because of what he did to Muhammed Ali that was heart breaking too watch grown men cried that night watching their hero get beat up in such a way because we all could see there was something wrong with Ali even Larry instead of punching him outta respect he should have just tapped or jabbed him on the gloves instead he went for hooks on his head and even gave him a couple of rabbit punches Ali was like a teacher a sparring partner to Larry he teached him alot about boxing but Larry always envied Ali and how much people loved him and everyone knows that

@@mandoso7222 Larry Holmes was 38, overweight, coming out retirement with only 6 weeks to train and only took the fight because the money was too good to resist…. Prime Holmes training for one of the biggest fights on his life had the style to easily trouble and defeat Mike…. Larry was an out-boxer like Ali with a fast and powerful jab and fast nibble foot work…. He would keep away from Tyson’s power while keeping hit at bay with the jab and survive the early rounds of Tyson onslaught with ease and then by round 10 when Tyson’s stamina is down he would fight inside and beat the hell out of Tyson and most likely win by TKO

But Larry wasn’t punching hard anymore he was telling Muhammad to quit (which you heard already in the video) but Ali was like I’m being punched trying to fight right now what does he mean. He also could’ve been joking idk wasn’t there. Like “you love me, why are you destroying out me 😂” I only phrased it like that because it wasn’t that sad back then it’s sad he was moving so stiff but he still was laughing for many years after this fight

As much attention that Joe Louis gets, I still say he is the most underrated Heavyweight champion of all time. Dude went 70+ and only lost 3 times. Of those 3, he lost 1 when he was early in his career and he lost the last 2 by being forced to come out of retirement to box cause he was broke. The Government took almost every penny he had ever earned alongside greedy promoters. He was basically getting 1% of his (modern day) multiple millions. The sad truth was that people cheered him as an African American boxer in the 40's as their Champion to represent USA against Germany and yet after the war, those people turned their backs on Joe.

The people you and everyone else should be angry with are the greedy promoters and managers who let Ali fight despite the fact it was obvious he wasn't well. Yes he needed the money but he was one of the most famous people on the planet - do TV shows, interviews, personal appearances - anything but climb back into the ring. This was never Holmes' fault. I'll never forget watching Tyson sit there and listen to Robin put him down in I believe Barbara Walter's interview. Then he became suicidal... When CUS died Tyson was left vulnerable and wasn't equipped to handle the pressures of all the celebrity & fame. When your Champ everybody wants a piece of you. He was so young and inexperienced Coming from a broken home and finding Cus and Boxing which saved him. Despite all of that he managed to still live a good life. Even to this day, he says he battles with the loss of his little girl who got caught up on his treadmills power cord and was strangled. He's been through a lot that's for sure.

It is so sad that the boxing committee did that to Ali.If you go back and look at his training camp before that fight. You can see that his Parkinson’s disease had already started and they still let him fight. It was punishment for ducking the draft. They wanted to hurt him and humiliate him for taking a stand for something he knew was wrong. This was a sad day in boxing.

Umm no and seriously ? His trainers pushed Ali cause of the serious money at stake here and the fact that greedy promoters were threatening to withhold a lot of it if he didn't fight. Ali also couldn't knock his ego down as it was always his toughest opponent. Holmes was there to fight and do a job. The Ref wouldn't call the match, Holmes then tried to KO Ali to end the fight already and he realized that Ali simply wouldn't go down. He pulled punches to beat out the timer and to stop hurting Ali. A true champion in my eyes is Holmes.

It wasn't a damn punishment.. They literally didn't want to give Ali a license until Joe Fraizer campaigned for him and saying his reign as champ wasn't legit until he faced Ali.. Joe put his neck on the line to STOP the punishment Ali had.. Ali paid him back by calling him an uncle tom.. Blame the fake NOI mfs Ali was still paying for..

This is why Holmes has more honour than Tyson. Holmes didn’t want Ali to take the fight and showed his reluctance during the fight to hit Ali with spiteful shots. Tyson/King did all they could to get Holmes out of retirement, who was older than Ali was when he fought Holmes. They wanted to pad out Tysons CV and Holmes, a future all of famer at that point, was an easy target.
