I 100% agree with everything you said. I am sponsoring four birds. If they are there after the activation, that is $1,800. This 100% has to do with $$$. I prefer a one-loft race. $1,800 on proven breeders, I am willing to spend. Adding another $900 for unproven birds is outside my budget. $50 a bird versus $450. I picked the OCC Futurity for a couple of reasons other than money. You pick the handler, and past race results are on the AU database, so you can see how the handler has done in previous years. They also fly a challenging east course similar to mine. Either way, we need to meet either at Martinez or at my place. We could do a pigeon show, and you come to be the judge, make it a BBQ, and invite other viewers. Question: Do you think a good bird is a good bird? Are there birds that do well in one-loft races and birds that do well in club/combine races? The idea of horses for courses, some are suited for one or the other. The birds I raced were mated, flying to a nest box, hand-fed and pampered. That might better suit a type different from a bird that would excel in a one-loft situation. Just a thought.

@@littleloftonthehill .. I'll agree that a good bird is a good bird, however, birds that do well in club/combine races may or may not do well in an OLR. There's a lot of variables that come into play with an OLR. Those being the location, weather, the course layout, the care and training by the OLR manager etc etc. You can give your own birds much more attention that is needed for them to do well in a club/combine scenario as opposed to an OLR in my opinion, but either way, the birds must be good to start with or all the care and training in the world isn't gonna make them a good flyer. Also, birds that fly well in the flatlands of the Midwest, Texas, Florida and the south with the fast YPM's might do well there, but might not do so well on the tough, mountainous race courses of the west and pacific northwest with the slower YPM's.. As well, the tough birds of the west may not do well at all in the flatlands where speed is usually the norm, however, toss a 8 - 10 mph headwind or crosswind condition into the mix or when the distance starts to increase and those western birds will fly right on by the speed demons. Certain families of birds excel in certain parts of the country and some are good all around birds, given the right flying conditions.

Redemption Loft here in the comments is in that club. He does not think he will get many birds because he had a horrible YB season last year. The thing a like about this futurity is you pick the handler, no rotation. OCC does report results on the AU website, you can see how guys did in past years. It is no guarantee but it gives you a good indication. pigeon-ndb.com/races/ You could ask redemption whose loft he would want birds in. Maybe he just had an off year and he would be good. I reached out to a couple guys and committed already. I am sending four. Two to each handler.
