Shout out to Larry Wright for turning 65 years old today (Nov. 23, 2019)
May 20, 1979 - Grambling's finest, point guard Larry Wright turned in the definitive moment of his NBA career on the league's biggest stage, carving up the Seattle SuperSonics for 26 points off the bench in Game 1 of the 1979 NBA Finals. Wright, who won a championship with the Bullets the season prior, connected on 9 of his first 10 shots, shooting 12-of-16 overall. Wright capped the career night with two game-winning free throws with no time left on the clock.
Following the Bullets' eventual loss to the Sonics in '79, Wright played one more season in Washington before being dealt to the Detroit Pistons. Wright averaged 7.4 points per game in 45 appearances for the Pistons in 1981, one year prior to the start of the Isiah Thomas era. By the time 1982 rolled around, Wright had skipped across the Atlantic Ocean to star for Banco di Roma in Italy.
