Misty Mitchell some people believe he was given a cocktail which is why he died because there was something in it instead of over dosing but River did drugs so I'm not exactly sure what I believe. But if someone actually wanted to kill him breaks my heart because he was such a beautiful soul.

Honestly, Larry needs to shut up and let him speak. Don't put words in his mouth, let him think and let him speak from the heart. Wil was about to and then Larry would coax him with a word that he THINKS Wil might say. He does that with other guest he interviews and it drives me crazy

For everyone put off by how King keeps interrupting and how brief this is, there are much longer, much more in-depth interviews with Wil about this. One I saw had him saying that he and River became great friends on "Stand by Me", but that after that, they drifted apart and took different paths. Wil says he spent much of his teens when he wasn't working staying home with family and playing video games and watching TV and stuff. He says River got out there "on the scene", meaning clubbing and night life and so on. Wil said he couldn't hang out with River anymore because he chose not to hang out with people (River and his other friends) who took drugs. He talked about running into River somewhere later on, and River had OBVIOUS problems. Then, he says, he heard River had died, and was still sad, but not surprised by it.

@@girlygirlyblonde Yeah...just in general, being more turned inward and away from wildness helps. But...there are people who do enjoy some nightlife; they just don't do drugs. I was a little bit Will & a little bit River (w/o drugs). No video games for me, but reading books & just not going out all the time was true of me. But I also could hang out at lounges, dance places, & bars that I deemed safe and not too wild. I would never step foot in a club or bar where I was told that drugs were circulating and people were on them IN the club. Never.

Sounds right. Wil was probably a bit more introverted and never wanted to be famous in the first place. It makes sense that he wouldn’t get involved with the Hollywood club scene. Yet he still cared about River.

River was a wonderful soul, he cared about things at a young age and did a lot of good the short time he was here, this is one of the examples of what he did: Yes, River was a huge environmentalist and advocate for animal rights! “I’ve just bought 800 acres of forest on the border of Panama and Costa Rica. I want to buy the last “first growth forest” and turn it into a national park. It’s a human tragedy of immense proportions. Many native Indians in that region are losing their homes daily, and it’s going to affect both you and me, because that’s where most of the world’s oxygen comes from. The Amazon rain forests are the world’s lungs and without them we will not be able to breath. It’s a very scary thought and it’s not too far off.“ River created a non-profit to acquire land in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica with the intent of saving endangered species and the rain forest. In 2004, the land was sold to a conservancy for perpetuity and the funds were used for the new River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding.

I met someone who knew the family well and they told me the mother was one of the worst stage mothers they'd ever met. It was the mother who wanted the children to be the providers for the family and famous. Not the father or the children. And river was the first casualty.

@@nouranabdulla2869 Joaquin and River said they were always very free and open with the roles they played in. Joaquin was an adult, and auditioned because *he* wanted to. No one could force him. The Phoenix family have a lot of love for each other, and for their mother. If she was as horrible as you’re making her out to be-I doubt they’d still love and respect her the way they do as adults. Don’t trust a random KZfaq commenter over her very children

@@vavacadoz A caring mother doesn’t put her seven year old son on the corner to panhandle for money to feed his parents and siblings and that’s exactly what happened. By the time River was nine years old he was footing the bill for seven people and that’s no secret.

Really, until you said "River" I wasn't sure which mother you were talking about. Wil's parents were horrible, as well, and he struggles with chronic depression and anxiety issues to this day, mostly because of their abuse of him as a child.
