When I first saw this Impala driving onto the paddock, I thought to myself 'What a clean looking classic car!'. Fresh paintjob, no rust and awesome steelies. However, little did I know, it had a 700+hp setup under the hood.
This 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS is powered by a boosted (procharged) 400cui small block V8.

The sad part is how different body shops wants to overcharged me $25,000 just to do body work and paint job when my car is rust free and all it need is a few body work and a paint job. Side by side with the other cars in the vid, I'm guessing the big Imp will throw down a 1.5ish to maybe 1.6ish 60 foot times. That is Not lazy my friend! Sure the launch could be improved on but doing so at this level of performance starts to really take away from the overall streetability of any car.

Many moons ago I owned a '65 SS Impala. If I had I kept it my powertrain upgrades were nearly identical to this one. I had designs to run an ATI Procharger like this one but on a 383 Chevy rather than 400. While I owned it, I swapped out the Powerglide trans for a TH350, bolted on Vette "fuelie" heads to the 327, added a Performer RPM intake, Holly Double Pumper, Mallory ignition, Hooker headers and Flowmasters dumped at the rear axle, rebuilt the suspension and dropped it by 2 inches. It wasn't a strip monster but a fantastic road car and a hell of a lot of fun. I miss that car every day… but I still have some fun toys.

Nowdays it seems the biggest worry about building a boosted anything is the decision to go turbo or centrifugal? Does one want to step up to a more complex twin turbo setup or fight with belt issues on a big single Procharger? What a connundrum... LoL

I wish I had been smart enough to keep it, but to prove my stupidity, I kept it until 1973 and traded it fie a Hatchback Vega GT. It embarrasses me to admit it. The engine in that POS melted with the outside temp of -14 degrees F on NewYear’s eve six moths later. The engine was replaced, and I traded it for a Pontiac Grand Prix. The thing you got to consider about the older body styles is they give up a lot in the terms of drag and weight vs the newer engineered bodies. That says a lot.

One big advantage the newer cars have is the transmission . The older cars usually have a 3 speed automatic going against a 4 or 6 speed in the newer cars . .

The video thumbnail called the 1965 Impala a sleeper. But nearly anyone would be able to tell by the engine sound it has some horses under the hood.

My first car in 1965 was a 1963 Impala convertible wanted a 65 bad but couldn’t afford it. 327 wasn’t fast compared to these, but the girls loved it!

One of my favorite cars ever. If I were offered the choice between a white 2-door 66 Caprice with blue interior or a Ferrari, I’d have to think long and hard. (Probably go with the Caprice).

I had a 1965 Impala with the L78 396ci, 425hp, 4 speed, black/black, that I bought off a dealer's floor (after I talked my dad into co-signing and convincing my wife how sole crushing driving around in a Chevy Vega would be). It would have been a real sleeper except for the raised flags badges. Unfortunately, the 425hp was very tough on a family car chassis and other components like transmissions and rear ends. Or maybe it was me that was too rough?

Do you know what most people want to see at a 1/4 mile race? Any guesses? A: The race times and top speed. 0-60 would be nice, too. Did I miss it? I checked the description and didn't see it there either. That's what drag racing is all about for me, not just about who crossed the line first.
