I've been farming for 6 years and I completely love it. The joys, challenges and sorrows included. However when I look at my account book, I sometimes feel like I should be getting much more from it. Best year so far has been just above 2% of the profits I made. The rest has gone into farming expenses and operational costs. Anyone has a way of increasing this number significantly? Of course patience comes with the job but then, there has to be a better way or rather a faster way. Will appreciate any advice greatly

Chet... If you see this.. Next time clamp the air line to the chamber with a set of ViceGrips and back the slack adjuster so the brake is off the drum it will get you home. (Truck Driver of too many years experience)
@scottcurry479
@scottcurry479 Жыл бұрын
Watching them work on truck brakes really scares me. They truly don't understand what they're doing. They stumble upon a solution, but if they'd have someone go over the brake system with them, they'd be so much better off. Vice grips, a dime in the line, a pin. There are dozens of ways. Also, caging the chamber rather than backing the brake off would leave you with service brakes on that wheel. How many times have they had a breakdown due to a chamber since I've been watching them? If they'd just replace all the piggybacks every 5 years or so, they'd eliminate that. They aren't that expensive. Do one truck and one trailer a year and you'll eliminate the problem.

Hey, Chet, 2 things I think might be helpful. 1) add a couple of air tanks to trailer or even retro fit old compressor tank from shop as a storage when new compressor comes in for shop. You can always fill and have check valve to give pumps plenty of volume. 2) I think the new Polaris needs a oranges flashing strobe warning light bar on it. It would be very helpful moving combines , headers etc in the fall when the time changes and also for Eric using it as a repair service truck.

Next time you should cage your brakes. The cage tool is on every park brake can, looks like a bolt, has acme threads. It goes in the hole in the back of the brake chamber, the t goes in and turn 90 degrees to lock in place. Tighten up the nut till the park chamber is completely backed off. You will still have some service brake power except the anti compound valve will let air out.
