Recently our Las Bambas operation released its 2018 Sustainability Report, detailing its social and performance throughout the year.
Key highlights in the report include:
8,706 direct and indirect jobs created by the operation, with 18% of employees from the local region
More than 16 million hours worked during 2018, with a total recordable injury frequency (TRIF) of 0.47 per million hours worked
Implementation of the ‘Nos Cuidamos’ (We Care For One Another) safety campaign, aimed at promoting safety as an essential value amongst all employees and contractors
US$36.4 million spent on local procurement during the year
US$15.3 million invested in social projects aligned with the United Nations first six Sustainable Development Goals
More than US$240 million in royalties generated by Las Bambas from 2016 to June 2019
17% reduction in the poverty rate in Apurimac between 2012 and 2017
71% less water withdrawn from rivers and creeks in 2018 compared to 2017
