Its called Lobola (dowry) negotiations it's done by a man's uncles, they go to girl's family to ask for a permission to marry their daughter and pay them with cattles or money to thank them for raising the girl... its usually 12 cows or more depending on the girl

The whole Goat thing is what we call Lobola negotiations, basically Lobola is dowry in cattle which the husband has to pay to the family of the wife as a token of respect and appreciation for the family of the bride for raising such a wonderful women and that they taking her from not only her surname but from her home to start a new life with her husband. The scene there is where they are negotiating the fee which is the cash value of the cattle which they have to pay out( usually it’s laborious depending on how tough either party’s negotiation skills are) but mostly the money is used for the wedding

In that part of the video that's why the girl looks worried there by the window🤣 they are negotiating the price ( bridal price) if they can't agree on a price wedding gets canceled. Down here you pay before you can marry someone's child😌

Those gentlemen who were talking were the groom’s family asking for a hand in marriage from the bride’s family. This is a tradition that is still practiced till this day. The tradition is called lobola negotiations, it is a symbol of two families coming together and new relationships formed. Basically the groom’s family negotiates a price set by the other family that they will have to pay to fully welcome the bride into a new family, the lobola can be payed with cattle or cash. A Lobola is also a sign of letting go from the bride’s family because she belongs to a “new” family now, even her children will have a surname of that family. It is also a symbol of thank you from the groom’s side for raising the lady. Fun fact: in some cases the more educated the child; the higher the price or the more wealthier the groom is the higher the price.

On 6:55 is what we call Lobola negotiations whereby the bride's uncles and the groom's uncles reach an agreement to pay a dowry for the bride which is an important part of marriage.If it doesn't go well there might not be a wedding.And as you can see the bride is in the house away from the negotiations because it is part of tradition that the bride shouldn't be anywhere near the negotiations.The goat is an offering to the bride's family so that the groom's uncles are allowed to enter the yard because nothing is for free lol.But yeah that's just a brief explanation of Lobola negotiations.

That's the whole lobola (dowry) negotiations process with representatives from both families. The groom's family come to the bride's family to officially ask for her hand in marriage and the dowry negotiations take place. You can see Bontle peeking from the window when she hears commotion from the representatives.

those are the family representatives from both sides usually the uncles. The groom sends his uncles to ask for the bride's hand in marriage. They pay lobola which is a price to a brides family to basically thank them for raising the bride and they promise to take care of her. So in the visual it seems like the uncles weren't agreeing on the amount of money that should be taken out for her

In SA men pay lobola(dowry) to get a women. the negotiation on how much a men should pay is held by elders of the two families, not much about money but more of uniting two families . it custom here in SA Black communities.

Yes, elders like the grooms uncles approaches the brides uncles to request a hand in marriage on behalf of the nephew(grooms). Negotiations are so intense sometimes it could be a make it or break it situation if families don't see eye to eye on how much their niece is worth.

The scene where the are old men talking (with the goat) that process is called "ukulobola", basically uncles (elders) from both sides meet to negoatiate the bride price (it's custom of a guy asking for a hand in marriage) and the uncles come and give the goat as a gift (and the goat is just for them to talk, they can choose to ignore them. Some give expensive boottle of whiskey (e.g. Johny walker blue) and only then they can start talking). then they starting negotiating how much the must pay (based on the girls's education, what she can do etc... bullshit really) but it's a beautiful custom, it joins two families.

The groom sends over his uncles to the bride's uncles to negotiate the dowry aka *lobola* & only when the negotiated price (can be in the form of livestock or money) is paid can the wedding take place. We then celebrate with putting a goat/sheep or whatever down, followed by x2 traditional weddings (one from the groom's side of the family and the other from the bride's side of the family) these are 10 times better than the white wedding - the white wedding comes last & is optional. All in all we celebrate 4 times, can be 5 times if you're too Westernized & throw an engagement party which hardly happens because the lobola negotiations are already grand & can be categorized as an engagement celebration.

What's great about this video is the fact that it's actually a true story about the couple acting it out, and yes Trez the guy in the video is the rapper priddyugly as you mentioned at the start of the video.
