Laser Engraving: Your Golden Ticket to Repeatable Precision Engraving Success

I don't know about you, but when I first got my hobby laser, The Ortur Laser Master 3, I was a bit confused how I could get accurate placement of my engravings. I could get pretty close, but nowhere near perfect. Once I dug a little deeper it all started to make more sense.
This video is PART 3 in the series of designing, engraving and using a waste board grid to mazimize your accuracy and efficiency when engraving single or multiple items. The key to this video is understanding the job starting point terminology in Lightburn software, I run through each of the examples to give you that light bulb moment where it clicks for you to.
In PART 1 - • Laser Engraver Easy Wa... - I run through the basic concepts of how you can simply design your own custom waste board directly in Lightburn software in just a matter of minutes.
In PART 2 - • No More CROOKED jobs -... - I engrave the waste board directly onto a MDF baseboard and secure the laser with base mounts to ensure consistent results every time.

Hello Darren, I am a new subscriber and new to laser engraving. After watching just a couple of your videos I know you have a lot of knowledge on the software that you need to know to make laser projects much easier. That is my problem (and maybe most new ppl to this hobby) is trying to understand not only lightburn, but the plethora of software (gimp, photoshop, illustrator, etc..) to make life easier. Thanks for your videos and your explanations.

How do you square the grid board to the laser if it moves? You're not cutting on it, right? If you're cutting on something like a honeycomb board, how do you make sure your material on that is square to the laser?

Hey there - good question - I have “feet” screwed to the waste board so it is in the same position each time - I have covered that in another video before this one - as for cutting - yes squaring up becomes a problem - but with the cutting I have done I just frame it up in lightburn before I cut - I’ve not done a lot of cutting - a few boxes and jigs

how can this be adapted to work using a honeycomb tray? Also, where can I find the file / info to make the small USB boxes?

Hey Steve - introducing a honeycomb would add complexity to this concept, believe it or not I still don't have a honeycomb tray, but is on the shortlist - the way around this would be to introduce jigs on top of the honeycomb, providing th honeycomb is in a fixed position. Dave over at The Clack Shack (www.youtube.com/@TheClackShack) does some great work with jigs

Hi Darren, thanks for that mate, one question once I have engraved a waste board grid, how do I zero the coordinates onto/into my laser. I hope you understand what I am trying to say buddy.

Hey Russell - I’m not entirely sure what you mean, however my process was to get the waste board position it where I wanted - add the 3d printed feet that I made to the waste board in position then engrave that waste board therefore it always maintains the correct position with the feet that are attached to the waste board
