The brand also has a responsibility to vet their content but unless they told her to lie their only crime is not catching the bad content. Ultimately, is it the worst thing you could ever do? No. Of course not. Should we burn her at the stake? No. But being okay with making false claims in ads isn’t a great precedent to set. The consumers ultimately suffer and who knows to what extent. This is probably a minor inconvenience when you buy a mascara that doesn’t make you have gorg lashes but other products might have more of an impact if they’re selling snake oil…. It’s a slippery slope. Are there more important things happening in the world, sure. But that doesn’t mean we can’t call out some BS or bad behaviors when we see it, even if it isn’t going to solve the climate crisis and feed the hungry….

So she only has this ad because the followers got her to where she is and she was dishonest and lied as an influencer. You are supposed to be trustworthy. You are supposed to give honest reviews. No one is saying she should die for it just like nobody is saying the influencer is trustworthy and her followers should trust her. That’s not on the influencer, that’s on the follower! She lied.. she got caught and she doubled down.. people are allowed to hold her accountable.. But they’re influencers so it makes sense for them to have an option on it.. I thought it was super helpful to hear it because it made me think about it from their point of view rather than a non-influencer. But also I’m for influencers doing and saying what they want/true to themselves and if I don’t like it then I unfollow them
