In what became Lasha Talakhadze's first true heavy session here at the World Weightlifting Championships 2023 in Riyadh, he built up in the snatch to 210kg/462lb, a weight he hit for three singles. Never before have we seen him lift some much for so many repetitions. But, he looked nervous. Lasha and his whole team, including head coach Giorgi Asanidze, were on edge, anxious about the enormity of the session.

They know he won't be here forever. I was there for Usain Bolt, never missed a World/OLY race, even the heats, saw every DL I knew he was in and so on. No regrets, I also saw Tiger at his peak way back (missed the 1997-2000 but saw the rest) - Never miss a current-time-legend! People, enjoy Lasha, see it, live it, and talk about it when he retires and the next 25 yrs till another one comes by.

I'm a fairly big guy. 6 foot 3 weighing about 250 lbs. I've been weight lifting for a couple of years now, and deadlift is my absolute best lift. To see him just throw my 1 rep max PR deadlift over his head and stand up with it is just surreal. I farted loudly, almost shit my pants and saw stars everywhere lifting those 210 kg off the ground!

Paris --> Repeat this plan. Then arrange or wait for or train for a small but sanctioned event, best conditions, maybe at home, best food, sleep, training and go for 230-270 with 215 - 223 - 230 + 250-263-270 for 500, all in, then retire. It's one thing to say he missed then hit 240 in a "training total". It's another to realize the what that means as in he went through the entire scale of warm up and hit a 210 snatch 3 times, then went through a whole other build up for the C&J to get to that 240. Also, I think your vid said his last lift was a 252 but the vid still says 240.

Fantastic commentary Seb. It’s fair to say we both have a fixation for this Goliath of a weightlifter. I’ll never forget the training session from 2017-18 when a Lithuanian weightlifter was snatching and Lasha and his crew were waiting until the lift was completed until they joined the training session- and Lasha’s face just said it all. You will get a wide variety of answers here based on the athletes experience-level, rest periods and amount of volume they need. So I'm being very general here and it obviously could easily be +/- 25%, but for just those two movements, 75-90 minutes is a fair average for someone with experience that does a proper warmup and a decent amount of volume.

@sandrost4243
@sandrost4243 9 ай бұрын
@@DXT61 I actually came over from powerlifting, competed roughly 15 years, mostly USAPL back when it was under the IPF. Yeah weightlifting is very different training, which is wild since they are both barbell sports. I train more frequently, usually 5x per week and I squat more often, but honestly I feel like it's easier on my body overall. Powerlifting just left me feeling ground down, the constant heavy deadlifts and 'grinding' nature of the lifts. Weightlifting tends to be more dynamic and outside of heavy squats, I don't feel like I am grinding through lifts nearly as much. I can tell you this, if you ever decide to dabble in weightlifting, the strength you have from powerlifting will give you a great start, the bigger challenge is nailing down your technique on the snatch and C&J.

I get the feeling that we will see 227 in the snatch for a new record and then a clean and jerk open that gets him a medal in the overall total, a second that gets him the gold in the overall, and a third clean and jerk attempt that gets him the gold in that lift. Maybe 227/255, 482 total? It all depends on how much the other lifters push him on the clean and jerk.

Can anyone confirm 100% that his is legit strenght and nothing fishy behind it? its not the first athlete from that region of the world who are not even close to be clean when it comes to lifting xD.

As much as I am enjoying watching the stream / comp. They really need to do something about entering A lifters into lower sessions, it can make the main A sessions boring to watch. Part of growing the popularity of the sport is to make competition more intense and interesting to watch for the fans.

I like him he looks very religious and shy. He is one of the greatest weightlifter in the history of the world. There is an Iranian guy Ali Reza chasing him and might break his world record
