After Marvin Hamlisch won three Oscars for both The Way We Were and The Sting in 1974 which was a great year for him...many doors were finally open for a few Academy Award winners such as Michael Gore, John Corigliano, James Horner, Randy Newman, Hans Zimmer, Alan Menken, Anne Dudley, Rachel Portman, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Bill Conti, Elton John, Tim Rice, Sam Smith, David Byrne, Dave Grusin, Gabriel Yared, Howard Shore, Irene Cara, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Hudson and Will Smith as well as Honorary Oscar winners Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin.

drsunshine1959 Well said. Her work in the early days of film could be seen as "dated" to some but I personally hate when that word is tossed around so often. I agree with what you said- she was in a handful of great movie musicals that shouldn't be seen as dated but as truly classic. It's too bad she's not more appreciated today.
