a little tip from when i use to go to the Bahamas, when provisioning buy green tomatoes. wrap in news paper and put down in a cool dark locker. then when you need a couple for dinner take out a day ahead of time and sit in the sun. they will begin to ripe and this way you can have fresh tomatoes for weeks

That weather pattern you complained about is why people who live down here don't go to the Bahamas in the winter. I understand why people from up north want to spend their winter in the Bahamas to escape the cold, then go back north for the summer. Summer in the Bahamas is by far the best time to be there. Days with a lot of wind for sailing are rare, but you don't get that weekly cold front. Generally the ocean becomes very flat, sometimes like a mill-pond. The silt settles out of the water and it becomes even clearer than what you saw. Visibility is surreal. Drone shots look like boats are floating in air with their shadow on the bottom 20 or 30 feet below in water so clear you don't see it if the sun is behind you. The water gets so warm, you can stay in most of the day. The hurricane risk doesn't go up much until mid-August to September, at which point we pull our boats out of the water for the fall and first half of winter at least. You can get some nice weather in February March or even early April from time to time which can last a week or so, then comes the unsettled spring weather thats been keeping you in Bimini. I'm actually waiting for that to end before starting my summer boating season. You really have to see the Bahamas in summer sometime!

Island Time . . . yeah we moved to Florida two years ago and I think Island Time starts here. You need something done like say a tree trimmed or removed and they get to it in their own sweet time. Yeah we are retired so no big deal. My point is it kinda starts here and as you go further south and the vibe is laid back so is the urgency. Great videos. Where to next after Florida?

I learned about island time in1974 when I flew in to Bimini on Chalks Seaplanes out of Miami. The Bimini bread was great if you could catch the baker at the bakery. I got to sit at the Compleat Angler Hotel in the same spot where the Great Earnest Hemingway sat at the bar there, it has since burnt down. I also learned about Island time then. I met a local who had been to my home town in Fl to pick oranges, his philosophy was that there was no need to lock up things in Bimini. Hey Mon, the Island is only 8 miles long. There is no need to lock anything up. Everybody knows what every body has. Also his philosophy on island time was this: If it doesn't get done today, it will get done tomorrow, if it doesn't get done tomorrow it will get done the next day. If it doesn't get done the next day, it wasn't worth doing in the first place, mon. 45 years later I still apply this to my every life.... It was nice to see the Queens highway and the Kings Highway in your video's. So thanks and a thumbs up. Fair winds and keep on doing what your doing!!!!

Great info. My husband is coming home today after being in st Thomas usvi for 6 months, he is working with Fema, I went to visit twice, cried when I had to come home. Loved everyone and the beautiful weather and snorkeling. My husband grew up sailing with his dad, they did the Caribbean and he’s considering doing it again. I think y’all met my dad and a group of kids from the school he teaches at! They were in Bimini at Big Game. My dad takes a trip every spring with his school and sometimes takes trips in the summer. I get to go during the summer. I think your pros and cons are absolutely spot on. I’ve been three times and the most annoying thing is shopping because of how expensive and how little selection there is, like you said. Good luck on your journey! Safe travels!

Love the pros and cons. Gotta love that double tax. What is that stainless polish you are using? You guys are hardcore putting out weekly content on your week that just passed. Lots of Respect. Have you considered scheduling posts rather than stressing out to get content out the same week? Or even just to making uploading when convenient easier by having more days to upload with a consistent publish day.

I was just sailing in the Bahamas. Good video. To the money and VAT, I brought U.S. dollars and my credit card, both were accepted everywhere. The Bahamian dollar must be pegged to the U.S. dollar. By bringing cash and using a credit card you'll only (I think) pay that 12% VAT once. Shopping for food the day I got there (Georgetown), the prices were higher, but not as much as I thought. More like 'vacation' rates than yikes. I was surprised by the selection - some places had a lot of variety, but yep, they do run out. But they'll tell you when they expect the stuff to come it. And Spanish Town (terrific place) makes their money not on tourism, but on spiny lobster fishing. I love the Bahamas and the Bahamians.

Tim and Candice another great vid this . It is nice to hear that crime is mostly contained in Nassau and Freeport . So I will then avoid these two places . And you mention that Georgetown is nice . So may be just go there and spend some time and come back . So you need to fight the rust .Do the Marinas have internet . I am looking into something called as MyIslandWiFi .Do fellow cruisers mind if you are on a power boat and not a sail boat .

I have just started to watch your videos and complements on all the great information so far. I appreciate the fact that you have included costs for some items and I am always looking for more on that to plan a budget. For those of us dreaming about such an undertaking we wonder what you spend per week. It seems you take on the journey as I would; sometimes anchoring and other times at a marina which obviously adds to the tab. No doubt you brought plenty of food with you but how much and what type did you end up buying? Just a basic run down of expenses for your Bahamas trip would be interesting and maybe lessons learned or things you will bring or bring more of would be great 😎. On another note vessel draft and did it cause problems and what would be a maximum for the ideal Bahamas sail boat. Thanks

Like many, one of my goals has always been to sail the Bahamas The Caribbean , BUT here on the one hand you’re saying Everything is Tourist based, their Livelihood depends on Tourist Dollars, On the other hand you’re also saying Stores don’t Open on time, Shipping supplies may not be here on time Customs may not Open on time, And that this is a Cultural Thing ! Now That Is Contradicting Totally to CATERING to Tourists!!!!! Puzzling.... But, thanks guys!!

Enjoy your videos very much! One question though...what size boat and what provisions do you recommend for a Florida - Bahamas sailing adventure? Or is that a completely subjective question depending on what your "creature comfort level is? Someday I would like to sail my Macgregor 26M from Florida to the Bahamas but it is not as large a boat as your Hughes and cannot stock as many provisions. On the flip side my Mac can be beached anywhere and I don't need a dinghy to go ashore. Please advise your opinions on this. Thank you.
