Reminds me of the late 60’s early 70’s in Michigan.

Seems strange to see Grouse in the field hedge rows. Looks like pheasants cover.

In New Hampshire, this kind of cover is the best! Dog scrambles along the hedgerow. Berries, grapes, apple trees draw the birds out, nice open shooting.

I live in Manitoba, Canada and a few years ago I was exiting one of my favorite grouse trails when I ran into some hunters who were in a truck and pulling a big trailer. I spoke with the driver who had an obvious Southern accent! They said they were from South Carolina! That's a long way to come for grouse. I told them the trail I was on was good in that allows you to be quiet while walking.

@@FischerFan here in Carolinas the population has declined a lot in the last twenty years ,,I had areas before that ,,that I was able to flush forty a day ,,then they stocked wild turkey n deer ,,now those same places have no grouse.

@@bobbygreen2291 Hmm, it makes one smell a rat. It reeks of introduced game displacing grouse, and possibly with the agenda of making bigger profits. The season here has been good so far. I've been out twice and have bagged my limit both times with about four hours of daylight to spare. I've seen twenty or so birds both times. I've only seen one spruce grouse, which I bagged.

@@FischerFan down here the grouse are much wilder than they are up north ,,they fly very far as soon as they see you they are also larger ,,the average weight of ruffed grouse in North Carolina mountains is one pound nine ounces,,with the stocking of turkeys n deer ,,lots more hunters entered the woods ,,posted signs went up ,,and the turkeys n deer ate much of the available forage ,,fox grapes ,,after that the deer ate down a lot of the understory making young grouse an easy target for the thousands of great horned owls.
