The Mets weren’t too happy with the fans ripping out the seats, they be like, “Wait just a damn second, we still play here you know!”
@MGAF6886 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm like, these seats are Mets' orange and the Jets were the guests at Shea Stadium in comparison. Yet fans are treating the stadium like it was going to be imploded after the season. The Mets and Shea Stadium were like one and the same. The Jets mostly lost at Shea Stadium except in the late 60s when Namath had his magic arm.

Senators fans did the same thing to RFK Stadium in 1971. The Senators had a 7-5 lead on the Yankees...but before the game was over, fans trashed the field, and the Senators had to forfeit.

james sollazzo That pissed me off even more. For years the Jets could never get a home National TV game at night. 1979 was the last one. And the Jets were a really good team in 81/82, don’t know why they didn’t get a home MNF game in 83, their last year there. Once they went to the Meadowlands suddenly every year they hosted home MNF games

they put N.J. Jets on the scoreboard. I had stopped going to Shea by then. Had a season ticket to the Mets in 1981-82 and went to all eight Jet home games in 1981 (plus some in 1980 and opening day 1982). Then girls started liking me.

Yes, Shea was cold, ugly and didn't have enough bathrooms. But it was part of the Jets identity & character. Tough, gritty & blue-collar, just like their fans. And those fans were loud (like the planes from nearby LaGuardia Airport), obnoxious, raucous. Shea literally rocked when Gang Green had their best moments. I don't believe in curses, but the Jets leaving New York cast a huge shadow over the franchise ever since. It has not been the same. MetLife Stadium is a boring, character-less, concrete pit. Owner Woody Johnson has made awful decisions, but he can regain a measure of respect - and restore pride- by returning them to Queens where they truly belong.

Miss the old unies. We need a owner who get's it haven't had one you could be proud of in many years. The moved to "Giants" stadium how little brother can you be. The Johnson's suck too, they do not know how to build a sustainable winning franchise and are always chasing a short cut. If you want to turn this thing around you have to find an architect with a Super Bowl winning resume that is not from over 10 years ago.
