As a kid cleaning horses’ feet, I was always taught not to touch the frog with the hoof pick, because it was sensitive. How to you know how deep to carve without hurting the horse?
@shy-2008SW
@shy-2008SW 2 жыл бұрын
I've had horses for a while now. I'm not sure exactly how far you can dig into the frog, but I'm sure it can be trimmed just like the hoof itself. Farriers Lear the inside of the hoof during training, and when learned you know where the tissue of the hoof is so you don't trim to deep. Just like with us we can trim our finger nails until we get back to the skin or a little further,that is basically how you can do it to a horse. ( I am not a professional so don't quote me on this.)

@Manasit They get use to it like anything else a horse gets exposed to on a regular basis in a controlled manner. I’ve worked with thoroughbred race horses. I use to make a lot of cash tip money by holding crazy thoroughbreds for farriers at track meets when I was a teenager. Thoroughbreds, especially young thoroughbred stallions that are physically conditioned and jacked up to race, are some of the flightiest, most high strung horses you’ll ever handle and even they get use to it.

After years, the hoof would be very overgrown. Fixing truly overgrown hooves is a long, arduous, and very uncomfortable process because the tendons and ligaments get shortened on one side of the leg and lengthened on the other. This happens because the overgrown hoof forces the leg into the wrong position. Then, the trimming has to be done bit by bit, over several sessions weeks apart, so the tendons and ligaments can slowly go back to how they belong. Only after the whole process is complete and the leg is normalized does it actually feel good. So...if you have a horse, don't wait years to call in the farrier!

You replace them because if you didn’t a nail could come loose and hurt the horse or the shoe could fall off and hurt them, and you clean them to keep all the dirt out of their hoof and prevent rocks from getting stuck in there causing an abases or something of that sort. Hope this help! :)

Not at all! If it’s done well enough like in this video, the horse is actually feeling really good. Letting the nails growing too long can hurt and damage the horse’s hooves but you cannot cut too short either so

Ut actually helps keep the integrity of the hoof if theyre walking enough to warrant shoes and it helps prevent stones and dirt from getting in the white line

Can someone with knowledge take the time to answer.. What is he pealing from the bottom? Dead tissues? Something similar to nails? How many times does that usually happen to a horse? Cost of doing the four legs?
@edwinjose2449
@edwinjose2449 2 жыл бұрын
It's similar to nail but called hoofs. If it's not cleaned it will cause bacterial infection. That's all ik
@YuKi-zt3nd
@YuKi-zt3nd 2 жыл бұрын
Okkk! The stuff he is pealing off is just apart of is hoof/nail and yes it is very similar to nails! For the price, you pretty much always get all four done (w/ exceptions occasionally) so it’s per horse it’s usually $131.46 for a trim and nailing on four keg shoes and for resetting keg shoes averages $125.52 so in total around $257. Hope this helped :D

Are the hooves trimmed with the deep “v” for any particular reason (Like flexibility or something)? Or is it just traditional practice? Would the hoof being totally flat cause pain or issues? Great video by the way!!😁

It could possibly be to prevent thrush in the hoof but also easier to clean when the shoes attached.

Its not a trim line, thats the frog. Trimming it prevents thrush and makes it easier to pick the hooves with shoes on
