After building this 74 model 360 LA Mopar engine out of our Dodge Motorhome 2 weeks ago and melting 4 pistons, a head gasket, and a cylinder head in 35 seconds we are back to try to re-build this engine with better parts and try and make it to Holley MoParty in less than a week. Can we get it done in time while also making some upgrades like forged pistons, and aluminum heads? Lets find out.

You really should gone with a windage tray which will keep excess oil of the crank and prevent foaming. Next a good oil pan with baffling in it for drag racing. Canton would be a good source for it through Jegs.

That cylinder not firing could also be where the alcohol in the oil is coming from. With it not firing that fuel is dumping

Squeezy is a natural artist. I hope you continue to support her creativity because those paintings show a great eye for perspective, composition, color, proportion and I'm totally impressed with her work. Please encourage her to make a career out of it. I think she could really do well even if she only worked in design for an ad company or a clothing design etc. something like that. P.S. hang onto her stuff she's doing now because it might be very valuable someday if she is as good as I think she is. Who knows? Her work might be in a gallery someday.

Incredible parenting. Squeezie is supported and encouraged in her talents and interests, even though they’re quite different in some ways than the rest of the family or the overall subject of these videos. How easy it would be for a creative free spirit like her to be desperately unhappy in a family that tried to make her fit into some predetermined role. Instead, she thrives. How WONDERFUL!

I was a machinist for 13 years before I served another apprenticeship for a tool and die maker for a combined 45 years at this point. I want to know how a body guy knows so much about building motors!? You have actually taught me a lot of things and I have been a gearhead all my life. Currently I have a 2019 Dodge Challenger Shaker 6 speed manual and my daily is a 2004 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate L. Which I took on a 3900 mile vacation thru 12 states a couple of months ago. I gave $3600 dollars for it with 102000 miles on it. It now has 116000 miles. I went through it and did the same things you would have. You were the one who inspired the purchase and the vacation in it. It got 24 mpg loaded to the gills! When I got back home in the driveway I had to put a new mass airflow sensor in it. Keep up the great work! You are a great guy and have a great family sir!

I appreciate the fact that your whole family is involved in what you do, I lost my older son on the 2nd of October this year, he is a gear head like me and was in my shop several times through out his 22 years of life, he suffered from seizures so bad he was not allowed to drive but enjoyed working on old cars

Good idea to check the temp of each cylinder header pipe with a laser temp. gun--you will know for sure all 8 are firing right !! Sounds real healthy !!

On the passenger side the exhaust pipe closest to the windshield was spitting out fuel I have a feeling that that cylinder might not be firing not at the end of this video yet so I hope he catches this before he takes off and destroys the engine

I grew up helping my uncle in his machine shop building race engines and he always recommended to his customers who ran alcohol to also have a gas carburetor to stick on it after an event and to run the motor for a minute on gas before parking it. That cleared the alcohol and moisture from it out of the heads and cylinders keeping the bores from rusting while it sits. Also, use a dead blow hammer and one quick, hard hit when installing pistons to keep the rings from finding a seam. Keep up the awesome content!

I think it’s just the little hammer taps making the ring compressor move around causing the rings to find gaps and get caught. Just needs one quick hard hit to avoid shifting.

You need to have a valve to create a vacuum leak to warm up the engine on alcohol so you don't milk the oil so quick

See... we guys will clean ALL DAY LONG! I mean... REALLY clean... SO CLEAN we could store our engine parts in a surgical room.... and then we come home to where our wife says she's been "cleaning" the house... We just have to shake our heads... When it's time for ME to clean the house - I mean... watch out... because if we use the same level of intensity for our house that we do for our engine rebuilds... you know every fixture is coming apart, going thru a parts cleaner or an ultra sonic cleaner... even the switch plates are removed and scoured... and then we sit back and say - now THAT'S cleaning. IDK about the rest of y'all... but most of the time I feel like I'm best served keeping my mouth shut about all this stuff... lol.

Running a hotter plug is not the reason why you melted your pistons! Had to be detonation, prolonged detonation. You had to be running very lean, not enough fuel.

I'm very surprised no one mentioned you're the only burnout guy I've seen that never let up on the throttle during the burnout! You absolutely can't do that. You need to feather it periodically to reduce heat momentarily it helps very much. Not to mention the ram's seemed excessive, I'd reduce the rpm's by 500- 750. I Love the channel! My new favorite !

Thank you for showing me your great work and your amazing family! If more families in America would follow your example, our country would be much better for it. Your videos remind me of getting to work with my Dad like Ralphie is with you. We rebuilt the engine in my first car, the 455 big block in my 1975 Hurst/Olds. That was over 40 years ago when I was about 13 years old. I miss him so much, but you’re a great reminder of what it was like. Keep up the great work! I feel like you are a friend when I watch your videos.

Distributor......now...that's why in demo derby I could send engine parts to the top of the bleachers. I thought it was the vinegar I filled the block with when I removed the radiator. Never in my mind... That there Josh was a answer from deep in the universe. Lol. The more ya know. Blessings to yall.

Josh, you'd make a great teacher for young people learning auto mechanics. Very informative. On a side note, glad to see that Big Mouth Bass is making some appearances and that everyone seems to be enjoying it. I knew that would be the perfect gift for you guys. Fixing the distributor solved a lot of your issues I’m glad it’s firing on all cylinders. I had no idea that was happening. Discount Darrel is right always get the biggest trans cooler with fan you can get. Good luck at Moparty.

Fingers crossed (and use actual cross) that oil galley plugs were removed for cleaning. Cam bearings would of been added blessing. Nice team work, family. Fantastic.
