How is she underrated? She is considered the greatest female lead in the West End and on Broadway. Read the comments of Cameron Macintosh and Claude-Michel Schönberg you can find this on Google. After landing the part the Lead part of Kim in Miss Saigon, she went onto a record stint on Broadway and got the role of Éponine in the Broadway production of Les Misérables. Lea's birthday is 2/22/71, so she would have been 29 in 2000. They were both in the Broadway MISS SAIGON when it closed in Jan 2001, so she stopped playing Kim before she turned 30. :)

Lily DeThyre there is a miss saigon movie (DVD) while the show was in London. Lea Salonga was part of the gala (Miss Saigon celebrated 25 years) Lea sings the movie in my mind with Rachel Ann and Last night of the world with Simon Bowman (the first Chris she sang with) DVD can be found on Amazon UK only.

Although that filmed version in London is perfect in every way, there is talking of producing an actual cinematic feature of Miss Saigon. It would be nice if Lea took the role of Gigi maybe.

I remember this at my dad's funeral and you were there, Ken. I remember Glen from the lions club doing the eulogy as my mum wanted this song played because she loved him so much and she said she had the best holiday with my dad Bryan and danced like there was no tomorrow in Fuengirola. He knew his heart was failing and was on a waiting list for a stent. I think my mum knew it was touch and go and so did I when we went to Cleethorpes in uncle Clifford's caravan in the October half term. It brings back so many memories of that day at the methodist church. I am so glad that the lions club members gave my mum the help and support she needed to get through the day, leaving her husband in spain and not able to see him again. David Harpin, Andrew Tate and his sister did a wonderful job 👏

Simon Bowman played a great Chris but Will's casting is still my favorite. Many quality women have played Kim but Lea was born for that role.

Manila run really knows how to convey the emotions of this musical. Not surprising, because the country also has the same problems with this short time love, especially the height of the cold war and U.S. base here

I totally agree with you. Lea Salonga and Will Chase are the only Kim and Chris for me as well. I recently watched the new production with Emily Bautista as Kim and Anthony Festa as Chris. It was my first time watching a Miss Saigon production. I thought they were very good. They both have great voices. However, I totally love the Manila 2000 production! I watch it daily!
