I cannot even begin to explain why, but, "I am a rock on top of the sand," is such a specific and powerful descriptor it's almost ungodly. Mother Mother never fails to impress, and their profound use of figurative language and imagery is enough to make any English teacher shudder.

@@rawcookiedough7518 I think it's a reference to unstability--sand moves really easily, and anything on top of it will also get dislodged. Which means at any moment that rock can be disturbed and roll down to destroy whatever's in its path

@katleido I think it’s also because they’re aggressive and rough(like a rock) rather than soft and delicate(like sand). Fits quite well with the next lyric: “I am a fist amidst the hands.” They both mean the same thing.

the reason i love mother mother's music so much is because they're so good at changing the vibes of a song. this song and arms tonite are a good example of this. there's definitely more cheery joyful melody and instrumentals that make you feel well... cheery and joyful but then they almost always have that like beautifully aggressive harmonizing, like at 2:07, that just adds an extra layer that's super fun and exciting to the song. one of my favorite bands. they're geniuses.

This song actually hits me kinda hard. I'm a naturally destructive person, and so whenever I start something new, I have the urge to tear it apart or watch it decay. I was dating this girl, and she was just way to clingy for me and I spent almost every hour of the day trying to piece her back together. I've always been drawn to people with emotional issues, and I try to help, so she was just like a massive calling for me. I eventually broke up with her because I knew it wasn't right, and people blamed the fact that I'm destructive for "Dumping" her, when in reality? I was just sick of human interaction.

Saygfoodbwhikq2 this song reminds me of my past self (from a few years ago). I’m big, and clumsy, and constantly break stuff. Back then, I was constantly bullied and because of the consent torment I became very angry, very aggressive and very destructive. I broke whatever I touched on purpose, got into fights, and was always just acting bitter. This story does have a happy ending though, my mom pulled me out of the school and I’ve made the rode to recovery
@TheGeesetreats4 жыл бұрын
it's been 11 months and maybe you've grown since this comment, but it's important to understand yourself... Being 'sick of human interaction' resonates with me because I'm an introvert, and it took me 15 years of dating to realize I need a partner who's more important to me, more comfortable to be with, than my own company. And since figuring that out, being honest with people up front, it's saved me some trouble in dating. But I was the same, drawn to the vulnerable ones, the ones I thought I could 'fix', looking for an answer to their problem, trying to figure them out... now I know I just needed to figure myself out, and not latch onto the attention of another like I was.

this was a year ago, but i agree deeply. due to trauma, i can’t feel empathy or guilt or regret as easily as i’d like to. this leads me to hurt people, not regret it, and carries it on. i *don’t* want to, but there’s like this voice in my head which tells me i will never stop hurting people, so there’s literally no point of changing it. but sometimes, the other side of my head blames me for hurting people, so i *try* to fix myself and fix them. but i can’t. i keep resorting to my distancing. i’ve lost relationships and friendships about something i can never change.

this song is upbeat but also sad. like ur disappointed in yourself for how much you destroy but you’re proud of it in a sick way.
@TheManglerMaster Жыл бұрын
It reflects both that AND nihilism at the same time, because being nihilistic has two meanings, the first one is caring about things but never their interior justification, and and the second, being shallow and empty inside while also caring about things but never their interior justification. And the song mirrors that bc It is about expressing you anger and wrath with destruction and thinking others should do It too. Despite knowing that that's entirely against societal norms, you continue, even though it has zero justification or purpose.

Okay, I fell in love with Mother Mother because someone did an Ivypool warrior cats pmv, and they used Slip Away. I loved the song, and now I've started listening to Mother Mother. Slip Away is now the theme song for one of my warrior cat OC's, Bird, and Waiting For the World To End is the theme song for an wolf OC named Darkness. I

this song feels better when im alone in a random isolated place where no one can hear me, i've built up anger over anger during my life and im screaming my lungs out cause ive been keeping it in for too much time
@jolojan4327 Жыл бұрын
Didn't think I would find someone who does the same. Well, I wouldnt sggest to make it a habit. I can literally not go one day without having a huge Anger tantrum in the middle of nowhere. Which not only fuck up your body but also gets u in trouble with cops

Can we please stop hating on people who find songs through tiktok.... Like it's not a problem... I hear a song like this repeatedly on tiktok, it gets in my head, I add it to a playlist and slowly get recommended more songs by the same band or of similar sounds, slowly discovering new great music and artists. I don't think that's a bad thing... Unless you only skip to the 15 that are on tiktok... You need to hear the whole dam song to fully appreciate its amazingness

They dont need to announce it to the world though they seek attention as they get little to non from their parents so they have to get people to know yet nobody wants to know and yet they still get the attention they want
