This one single performance united the whole of India from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal, and from the Arabian Sea to the Assam. So much that when India faced another war within three years, the whole nation rose up in fury against the enemy and we went on winning three battles within a period of 40 years. This song actually brought each and every Indian irrespective of their religion, caste or ethnicity, under one single umbrella. It wanted to make the people realise that they are Indians at the end of the day, and one part of the nation affected means the whole nation is affected. It was intended to induce a sense of collectivity among the Indians and determined them to make sacrifices when the nation is in need. Pandit Nehru thanked the Chinese Government for taking such an aggressive action against India, since that action united the whole of the subcontinent in co-operation and solidarity. He knew that if the citizens were unified, a country automatically gains power even if it is militarily weak. It was proved when the mighty American Army was expelled from South Vietnam, as a result of the massive resistance of the common people. Pandit Nehru's vision was to unite his citizens into one single entity and induce in them the sense of duty towards the nation. He knew that no enemy, however strong it is, could survive long if the resistance against it is equally strong. The thing which was proved in 1965, 1971, and 1999. Pandit Nehru understood the pulse of India more than most of the Indians did.
