I was fortunate to have a dinner with the Madam at Pearl-Continental Karachi, hosted by owner Janaab Hashwani in 1992. She was with her daughter and Hassan Sardar. She was very polite, courteous, good conversations, it was a wonderful evening for an Indian Diplomat...........Mumbai

Lata and Noor jehan both are legends both praised each other. Lata had a thin soft voice, which stayed with her for a long period. noor jehan sang in different voice tones all through her life, she could sing all kinds of songs unlike lata who was good at singing slow or sad songs. Lata sang upto the F5 high note in her normal voice and even touched the A5 note in modified/whistle voice. Noor jehan sang the F5 note comfortably in many of her songs and touched the G5 in her normal voice as well in 2 songs, however I know no song of her in which she was made to sing up to the A5 with modified/whistle voice. .

Bade Ghulam Ali felt classical music was not appreciated in Pakistan and he returned to India.

Bade Gulam Ali Khan went Pakistan after partition but returned in 1957 and acquired Indian citizenship in 1957. So he was Indian till death.

Noor jehan was quite a bit older than lata and her songs in India were from a different era to those sung later by Lata mangeshkar. However we can still tell by listening to their early songs that they both had the sweet light voice. Any music fan can quite easily understand that Noor jehan had the better voice and the versatility and strength in her vocal cords to hit notes others didn't even attempt. Lata mangeshkar maintained her voice longer possibly due to less strain as she always sang in a similar style not straining her voice.
