Late For the SGR Train in Nairobi Kenya 🇰🇪

Жыл бұрынIn this video I show my experience trying to catch the Sgr train from nairobi to mombasa. I arrived at the nairobi terminus with 1 minute to spare before taking the madaraka express kenya. I already had my sgr train kenya booking but still had to run 🏃♂️after picking up my sgr tickets.
I showed the madaraka express economy class on the sgr to mombasa and arrived at the mombasa terminus at 8pm. I got chatting to some of the other passengers and had fun trying to spot the elephants.

Best exit to access SGR would be JKIA,there's a separate lane for accessing mombasa Rd from JKIA exit, which makes it shorter to go round the other side of the highway..that would've saved you time. Enjoy your time in Mombasa..

It seems as though the cab driver had never taken any other passenger to the SGR via the expressway hence his unfamiliarity with the entry point😎🤔! But at least he was very engaging driver in conversation and not a dull one! The SGR from NBO to MBA is roughly 5 hours and not 4 hours! You are lucky that with 12 minutes to go you did not find the SGR gates closed! Plan your journey in advance next time by leaving an hour earlier to avoid such a situation again where you enter the SGR when your sweating🤣😂and your heart is pounding 🤣😂! It would have been good to show the scenery along the journey as the train hurtled along rather than those two girls that your chatting with that cannot be seen😎🤔!

I was counting down the minutes there! That was intense! Karibu Mombasa Phil. The local cuisine is amazing. Try out some Mishkaki, Khima Chapati (Kinda like rolex), mahamri na mbaazi and some bungo juice to wake you up! It's also become customary to take a photo with Kongowea Market's resident celebrity Masdin aka "everybody knows me"! 😂😂

You doing fine.. your eating like a kenyan.. I stayed a year in Kenya 12 years ago. Coming back this winter for 2 months ang also going by train,but 1;st class ( back problems, so need comfortable seat) Last time I took the bus to Mombasa but its good you showing the train since its new to me

Phil OMG I got nervous for you catching the train at the last minutes. My group is planing to take this train ( intercounty ) to Mombasa departing Nairobi terminus at 8 AM. My friends want to leave the hotel at 6:15 AM ( our hotel is 10' drive away). I believe it is too early. Do they have porters to help out with the luggage to the luggage compartments?

Why did you leave everything to the last minute like that? That was quite the adrenaline rush!! You need to always leave room for any incidents e.g accidents etc even if you are going on the expressway. The train keeps time, so you get late, you get left! Chapati is quite versatile, you can have it as a snack with tea or coffee, it does not have to go with a stew. Enjoy Coastal Kenya, the best beaches are in South Coast e.g Diani. Lamu is a must visit if you can.

I remember back in November 2020 i had to leave some of my bags at the taxi to avoid lot of security checks at Nairobi terminus after I arrived at the station 15 minutes to 3:00 pm departure time. It was chaotic 😂😂😂😂😂

Alternative way of eating chapati and stew/sauce. Hold the chapati on one hand, bite a piece, scoop the stew/sauce with a spoon and enjoy your meal.

You should be at the SGR terminus 30 min before departure, they only let you in because you are a tourist. The locals are shut out with no mercy.

I love Mombasa' s everything. The food comes first . Its superb. Try the salt water fish its ... m salivating now.

Man use night train the night train is better you go to the the station at 8:00 it leaves at 10:00 and you reach Mombasa at 3:00 and that's it

Social tips: don't buy or give money to random people in the streets save that money for this kind of situations (with this girls in the train) coz it would have been more polite if you had shared or have had bought them something small to eat as you eat coz in Kenya you just don't eat like that while your "friends" are watching you its perceived as a rude, unkind and an arrogant gesture towards your friends since you willingly decided to socialize with theme

@@philbland there are two exit points at the JKIA toll. One to the airport (security) and one to the SGR no security, main rd. The driver didn’t know about it.
