@@danski1961 the goal scoring celebration by bellamy at 89th minute was taken into the count as mentioned. the 4 minutes was up before that goal + the 30 sec sub. Anyway, not that it matters, city weren't that great during these years and they always feared Fergie's United like the rest of the premier league back then.

@@Callhouse You know what, I checked it again and I agree. Around 1m25s extra added time is actually reasonable. I still dislike the system with added time since it is too arbitrary (some refs do add the extra minute, some don't add anything) and would much prefer a game clock of 60-70 minutes, but it was correctly applied here. My bad.

@@bungaIowbill You could also say that handballs and fouls are arbitrary. Bookings too. Some refs are more lenient, some are more strict. Which way is more correct? Neither. That's just the way it is and that's what makes football that much more interesting. If you remove human error, you remove a lot of the excitment. VAR is a great example of that. It literally does the job it was designed to and what people always wanted it to do but the moment it was introduced a lot of people started complaining it takes the excitment out of the game. Which it does a bit but the benefit is that the game is objectively more fair. There's always room for improvement in the rules and with the people operating it but the system on the tech part works perfectly. Same thing would undoubtedly happen with the game clock stopping at 60 mins and having the time stop everytime the play is paused because the ref would have to blow the whistle at exactly 60:00 no matter what happens on the pitch currently.

@@Callhouse Sure, it would be very hard to remove all arbitrariness from the game. For some things, I do think a more developed VAR could remove some of it though, but it would be many years away. For handballs, the exceptions to the general "touching the ball with the arm is a handball" can be precisely defined-e.g., the ball is struck from less than X m away and the silhouette is not enlarged by more than Y cm-and this can be computed in real time using machine learning for pose estimation etc. But the fact that some arbitrariness cannot be removed now is not a reason to remove what is possible. And ref unpredictability is hardly what makes the game fun. If it is, why not let the ref decide the winner at the end, regardless of the score? Why not add more arbitrariness? Edit: also, I think the biggest issue with VAR is that it is not applied consistently. So often a decision is made that is almost universally seen as bad, and the correct decision seems obvious to basically everyone. I think one way would to achieve more conistency would be to have *more* VAR refs, and all of them voting for a decision. This would reduce randomness due to individual refs.
