RIP Dave Ulliott .
How it all started for myself and many others who first saw Late Night Poker and said wtf is this then to be presented with this guy called "The Devil Fish" thinking who the F is this , that was it I was hooked , they say the game has moved on either way we have lost an amazing character who kick started UK poker for the masses. My tribute to the God Father of British Poker who was and will always be my Poker Hero.
Featuring : Dave Ulliott , Peter Evans , Dave Welch , Surinder Sunar , Liam Flood , Joe Beevers , Joe Fernandez , Malcolm Harwood , Jin Cai Lin , Beryl Cook .
Commentary : Jesse May & Nic Szeremeta

I still have this on tape :) This final really got me hooked and fascinated in No Limit Texas Hold'em. I loved the variety of really wonderful characters that appeared on the shows and I quickly latched onto Devilfish as the player I wanted to win. The way he slow played those Aces was brilliant. Was quite gutted when he got knocked out early in the final the following year...but that's poker. He had a great sense of humour, a bit caustic at times, but still funny. Was really sad to hear of his death. He was a terrific and singular character. RIP Devilfish.

This is what got me into poker.Played dave in the 2003 british open got 22nd 18 paid but guess who went onto win it.Devilfish was so far ahead of the curve that he walked the tournament and won £90k in the process.R I P dave you are an inspiration to many.Poker has turned my life around and part of this is due to late night poker.

Thanks for shareing. From AcesMikeGrenwd(PKR ). RIP Mr. Ulliott. A popular player, and possibly one of the most entertaining on UK TV. Amazining reading ability, often spot on but often he called being behind on the river but having read the hand perfectly. But he was as big an audience draw at late night TV poker as any one else who ever sat down at the filmed tables. But then that is the opinion of some one who watches Bustop action day or night.

Devilfish in his prime, cool calm and collected. 5-10 years later he seemed to get slightly bitter and more easily rattled, showed himself up a few times steaming after bad beats, or just bad bets. I wonder if 40 years of living from one poker game to the next had started to get to him. RIP fish.

Thomas Duffin yes agreed, look at this final table for instance, it plays like a $3.50 S&G on Stars today - right down to Pete the Bandit risking bubbling with 7-9 suited calling a massive all-in. The only pros from the golden age of TV poker still around are D-negz and Hellmuth, neither of which have been very successful in recent times, some of the others still hang round in the mixed games where they have an edge, but yes NLHE is very much the domain of the hoodie wearing twitch streamer these days.

@@Dessan01 not forgetting Ivey and Greenstein. There are numerous others from the golden age that play in the biggest games but no longer on television. They play in maccau away from the spotlight to suit the businessmen.

@@Dessan01 and I'd say it doesn't even play as good as any S&G on stars. I made my first deposit on stars circa 2002. I prey right now for a time machine, I never managed my bankroll thinking poker would always be there, now its such a grind eeeking out 5BBs an hour at 2/4

@Paul Allen same mate, I started playing in uni around 2004 and games were still pretty soft. I would regularly make a couple hundred a week, just playing 050/1.00 cash tables for a few hours a night, but all I’d do it take it all out and blow it going to pubs at the weekend. I could have built up a decent BR but I didn’t see ahead to a time when games wouldn’t always be like that. I just play low stakes MTT’s on a weekend these days, the occasional FT gives me the illusion I’m still a winning player 😂

@@Mitjitsu would he ? maybe he would have changed his approach. Even on this FT they start a 9 handed ring game with the higher chip stacks given 20bbs only, and the short stacks start with 10bbs .. this is basically a super turbo, hard to judge who is good, and i cant believe people folded AK ever in this format.
@Mitjitsu
@Mitjitsu 4 жыл бұрын
@@youweechube Yes, I'm sure he would adapt. I was referring to him being transported into today's games. I will admit back then the only way for a pro to make money was via cash games. Thus even the top guys wouldn't be too familiar with playing a short stack in a SNG format. There was a lack of information out there, and what was out there was often bad. Ironically what killed this show is the players became so good that everything began to become highly standardised.

Best game I ever saw on Late Night Poker featured, predominantly (I believe.. it was a while back) Hellmuth, Tony G, Korosh, Devilfish, Mad Marty and Surinder Sunar.. There was SO much trash-talking it was ridiculous .. and guess who cleaned up? the amazingly quiet and respectful Sunar.. It was perfect. I always wondered what happened to Korosh. According to wikipedia he was banned from poker events after coming second to Neil Channing in the 2005 speed poker open, and refusing to pay his entry fee. A shame, because he was always entertaining to watch playing Hellmuth.

Pumpernickle lol I must admit she couldn’t wait to get the AK in the muck, but during low blind play with a caller it’s probably the correct play, most of the time she’s up against at least one pair, and there’s no reason to take a coin flip that early. She felt she’d been done over though and was tilted when she got dealt the A Q next hand, calling flop and jamming turn on a board that was all over Fish’s hand.

41:40 Wow Surinder had his hand in the cookie jar a bit with that KJ off raise in the first place, bet he thought he was miles behind when Peter went all in. Was shocked when he saw he was the favorite, but then of course the poker Gods have a weird sense of humour. You're miles ahead, but you shouldn't have made that raise in the first place, therefore we punish you. For your punishment we will follow the classic script of crushing you on the flop, then putting you back in the lead on the turn, just for the troll lulz, only to bring you death on the river. Standard stuff really. Bizzare shove from Peter though, he was obviosuly cosplaying as every Russian who's ever played on stars that night.
