This was a Sevr 1.5 on a 250.spine Rip XV and HIT/collar. Total weight around 420gr

This little pocket seemed unpressured which was nice. I know it gets pressure earlier in the year.

I was wearing the Thlete base layer set and Zodiak pants. Then packed in I had some prototype bibs, similar to the Sitka Incinerator, the Sitka Fanatic jacket and neck gaiter, and the first lite tundra brimmed beanie. Gloves were from Shivershield. I had the bowmar grip tape on the bow. It's similar in function to tennis racket tape. Temps here were in the teens but would have warmed up to the 20s plus some wind.

And for feet I had some merino blend hiking socks, treated bare feet with aluminum based antiperspirant, and had Akara Nordman Extreme pac boots.

It really depends on the specific property. The most I've gone in is over 3 miles on really big pieces but I've run into people back there too. Other places the land next to the road between parking lots is really good. And then often areas half to maybe 1.5 miles in that are simply overlooked or walked past can be good. Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to find those.

I hear that a lot, but I guess I just don't want to believe it haha. What are some key things you're looking for when identifying "over looked" spots? Is it really thick stuff? Would it be best to hunt those locations mornings or evenings?

Hi. I don’t go in far at Al…most time stay 1/4 mile or closer to the roads/ parking lot. It seems like it shouldn’t work but I see a lot of deer. I got my buck within 75 yards of a county highway which was 100 yards or so from where the parking lot was. I look for really thick/swampy areas that meet open hardwoods. Finding areas where young trees that are growing close together that meet open timber is good too. The best secret I have is finding areas that I’ve mentioned with very few oaks. The key is to find the biggest oak…(preferably white but others will work too) closest to the transition. I guarantee you will have trails going from the thick and transitory edge going right to that tree. That’s your money spot. Let everyone else walk 5 miles back! If you find these spots, put in some time, you will get deer. Remember early season is best late is second choice cause no one is in the woods. Get good clothes and boots (scentloc divergent is my choice, you can get the outfit on sale if you look) and you’ll be set. Don’t skimp on quality gear. You save and buy quality stuff and it’s usually “one and done.” You settle for lesser quality, you’ll waste more money and time with repairs/ replacements over time. Hope this helps.

@@2cthetruth everything you've said is exactly what I've been thinking. I love hunting early and late season it seems. Finding myself hating the rut because I like to pattern deer instead of stumbling across them. I will definitely be giving these tips a try. Thanks!

The rut isn’t hard to figure out. Find the doe bedding areas and hunt the down wind side. Bucks will be there scent checking the bedding. Easy peasy.

@@DIYSportsman I'm a dyed in the wool heavy arrow/fixed blade guy. But even I brought some Sevr's recently (Robustos because they are 150g) real trend on the heavy arrow/higher FOC pages to use the Sevr's, usually the 1.5's as you did once again, top job mate.

I used auto, but I did do some color correction in post. Especially with the phone footage which came in a little blue. The sony was pretty much spot on but I brought back some of the blue in the sky so it matched the 360 footage colors a little better.

The arrow went above the heart but appeared to slice sections of both lungs, a couple pencil sized blood vessels, diaphragm, center of the liver, and guts before going through the leg.

Nice. I always wondered if it was possible to get parts of both lungs on a frontal shot. I took a steep close shot at a doe quartering away last year at like 8 yards and I aimed for the heart because I wasn’t convinced I could get a double lung. Missed the heart by 2” but hit the main artery just in front and above leading to the carotid. Same result. Massive spray and crashed out in 6 seconds.

I was using a Sevr 1.5, but I've also taken deer with both the s125 and the wide125 Iron will with great results.

I'm using the Sony A7Siii with Tamron 28-200 and an Insta360 One X2. Although in this video some of the interview at the beginning was just with my cell phone.

It depends. During the rut if the action continues to stay hot I'll hunt several sits back to back from the same tree until I feel like I need to move based on the wind or compounded pressure is changing the activity. But outside the rut, maybe 1-3 total sits throughout the season in any given spot. Usually the first time in is the best opportunity.

I hunted early season with my recurve on local land but wasn't able to connect. Lots of hunts where I got tight to bedding amd deer didn't get up until right at last light or after. Then switched back to compound when I started traveling. Next year I think I'll do those recurve hunts in areas that have higher deer densities.
