Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Linkin Park. It was twenty years ago when Linkin Park's album 'Hybrid Theory' (released in October of 2000) exploded onto the scene and I distinctly remember teaching their music to loads of my private lesson students at the time, and this lesson revisits some of the ideas floating around on their albums and in their music.
This episode focuses on some of the signature chord-based moves that guitarist Brad Delson revealed in the early days of this band, which includes a healthy dose of stacked power chords, octaves, and harmonics sprinkled into the mix. These elements were very common in rock/hard rock guitar music at the time, as these ideas can also be heard in music from Incubus, 311, and POD (to name a few).
The chord-based riffs and ideas in this lesson include popular songs such as 'Somewhere I Belong,' 'Lying From You,' and 'Easier To Run' from their album Meteora, along with the track 'Papercut' and the newly released and previously-unreleased bonus track 'She Couldn't' from the 20th Anniversary remastered edition of 'Hybrid Theory' that was released last year.
If you're searching for some new twists to power chords and stacking multiple guitar parts together, along with hitting some tasty riffs and interesting ideas hiding in some modern guitar music - this is the lesson for you!
Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

I love Linkin Park. One of those bands that really speak to how the younger generation feels. Their songs were on the radio constantly when I was young.

Underrated album. My friends were into it more than I was back in the day (I was still listening to adult contemporary music from the late 90s, early 00s). I love their use of chords, and the production wasn't quite as stale as their contemporaries. Interesting idea for an episode!

Back in the day I never thought I would miss nu-metal, but yeah -- I miss nu-metal. Drop C, octaves, with a bit of chorus thrown in here and there, heavy wall of sound with a few sound effects thrown in (DJs adding that industrial element).... It was quite the sound, and Linkin Park had some awesome sounding hits. Nu-metal guitar is sort of forgotten by most guitarists these days. PS, I think with Linkin Park some of the guitar duties were shared. In at least one vid I've seen (official vid, where they're playing guitars on a set) Shinoda is playing octaves while Delson hits the dropped power chords.

You got the guitar on your left leg like you're playing classical so at least pivot around so your fret hand isn't so far off the side of the screen. Please consider some of us like to see what you are doing.
