Here's the next episode of Chordplay with 'The Chords of Gary Moore.'
I've had a lot of requests for Gary and his music, and while I did create a Three-For-All lesson surrounding his lead licks and ideas last year, I figured it would be a good idea to focus on some of his chord and progressions that he frequently liked to explore and evolved in his music.
This lesson focuses on a number of his classic songs and recordings, along with a few lesser-known cuts, but all of the examples in this lesson surround the use of "cycle progressions" - which is a common compositional occurrence found in classical, rock, jazz, and various other styles of music.
From the basic chord progression cycles coming from songs such as 'Victims of the Future' and 'One Day,' to the more elaborate cycle progressions found in songs such as 'Parisienne Walkways' and 'Still Got The Blues' (and more), it's obvious that Gary liked tapping into these ideas as he rearranged and revisited this type of chord-based playing in his music frequently.
This lesson will serve as a great crash-course into understanding what cycle progressions are and will also be a great chord review for those that would like to tighten their strength and knowledge of various chord types and voicings on the guitar. Once you have the chords and progressions under your fingers, then you should begin playing/soloing over the top of these progressions to locate an entirely new way of arranging chords and playing over them melodically.
