I was really impressed by the thoughtful and measured way Seth Meyers chose his responses in this interview. He wasn't trying to attack or to make an enemy, but he wasn't going to let McCain get away with a double standard either.

@Andre Lucas I think Trump says a lot of dumb stuff but what Omar said is way more disturbing. If that was said by Trump or any other Republican, people would be rioting. If she only made 1 or 2 comments, then you might have an argument about it being out of context, but she keeps making these types of comments on numerous occasions. It seems very deliberate.

Meghan McCain seems to be under the mistaken belief that people find her childish, boorish behavior "intimidating" or "daunting", and that being "unpopular" is some kind of badge of honor. Meghan, you're not "daunting", you're boorish. You're views are "unpopular" because they are not thought through. Slow down, stop being defensive, take an honest look at yourself.

@@srajguru87 Sadly, because of Rep. Omar's heritage and religion, she needs to choose her words on this topic extra carefully or risk being misunderstood. There are people who were and will be expecting/looking for proof of anti-Semitism from her.... so, even though I, personally, think I understood the point she was trying to make with a few of her disputed statements, it got completely lost because of her choice of words. I think the apology was for the unintended offense from poorly chosen words, which I think is reasonable, and a recognition that certain words/phrases have additional, unpleasant meaning.

I do care about Palestinians and I do criticise Israel but I also call out antisemitism when I see it and since Omar is a politician she cannot expect things to be forgotten because she apologized and got death threats. She can expect things to change by behaving like Muslim politicians here in Europe. You can support your minority and call out injustices without expressing antisemitism. If she cannot she has to go. Raed Saleh was born in Palestine, is a devout Muslim, and wants synagogues destroyed by WW2 being rebuilt in Germany. Just to give you one example. There is quite a bunch of Muslim politicians in Germany, France, UK, .... Omar's words were antisemitic and should not be forgotten. There is plenty of bright Muslim ppl in the USA, less angry, not antisemitic, just as smart. Find others. Let them speak also. Just my 2 cents.

This was from 1983. The interview is on KZfaq, but reading the back & forth encapsulates just how pointed and direct Bowie's points, were. My fav part is how Bowie basically makes the MTV worker (ie--the progressive white-guy, who probably has a lot of soul/funk/r&b/jazz records in his collection, and who thinks he's not racist) aware of how he's complicit in such racism. Seth did a great job! Meghan needs to learn how to express her opinions without sounding so antagonistic. I appreciate how Seth kept reminding her that Rep. Omar had apologized for her comments and that Meghan didn't need to continue beating that drum. Meghan didn't take that well but Seth ended the interview with class. He truly is a gentleman.

The constant victim framing she does annoys me. It's a tactic used to get the opposition to focus on apologizing instead of holding their ground. Whenever someone disagrees she gets flustered, raises her voice, and speaks in cliches and tropes not genuine personal insights. Then ends with "If that makes me unpopular then so be it" "I don't see why i'm being attacked here" Etc. Seth handled it well and made sure not to dwell on the apologies and brought it back to the point that she needs to be equally careful with her phrasing

I 100% envy Seth's ability to navigate this conversation. Anxiety would have destroyed me knowing I would bring a subject that would take the conversation to a tense territory with someone with strong opinions.
