@callmecatalyst As someone who got in to American Football via games like Madden, I really do love the tactical level of it. I followed it for years, became a Vikings fan, followed my local team around as a photographer (despite most UK teams being a bit rubbish). What turned me off the game though is the feeling it's just too punishing for the bodies of the players so it got to a point where I'd see a big hit and wonder how much that would reduce their quality of life by the time they retire. It was dreadful reading about Antwaan Randle El having to go down stairs sideways, yet being able to remember that it wasn't that long ago he threw a TD pass in a superbowl on a trick play. Nothing against people who still enjoy it, it's just something I personally struggle with when I watch. Oddly, I feel like the sport that compares best with American Football as an audience is cricket - both games involve a lot of subtleties that unless you make a huge effort to understand, you'll often wonder what is actually happening with the game. If you grow up watching the game it's fine, but coming in late you have to learn so many odd little details that it's almost an exercise before you watch a game! They are both incredibly on that tactical level when you look at the whole teams though

Goldstein was born in Sutton, London, to a British Jewish family, on 17 July 1980. After graduating from school, he attended acting classes in the University of Warwick, from which he graduated with a degree in Film & Feminism(!) Soon afterwards, Goldstein briefly relocated to Marbella, Spain, to work at a strip club which his father purchased during a "midlife crisis". As a result, Goldstein turned the experience into a stand-up comedy show called "Brett Goldstein Grew Up in A Strip Club", which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

@@mikefive1098 Good question. I Iooked it up and found this: The word soccer was invented in England actually, to differentiate the various football codes. Since there was rugby league football for example, association football was the official term used for what's today known as soccer. It was never widely used in the UK though, but was adopted by the USA to differentiate their football from it.
