You might be wrong about where he got the hole in the head. This could be wrong as well, but I think he got the hole head from when running a gauntlet, he escaped and later met up with Blue Jacket. Blue Jacket, on a horse, chased him down and struck him with the blunt end of his tomahawk, from behind on the head, knocking him out. I’m disappointed in you bringing up Hispanic and black racism. There wasn’t many black or Hispanics in that area at the time. How can these people be racist against them? That’s ridiculous! This involved Native Americans and was a cultural clash. Plus, for thousands of years, armies of other nations took over other peoples’ lands and killed them off. It doesn’t make it right, but the colonists didn’t invent it. I read two of Eckert’s books, The Frontiersmen and (I think) “Wilderness War.” Both were excellent. One thing I was always curious about, was Eckert’s books were always merchandised in the “fiction” department of a bookstore. In the front of each book, it explains that the book is based on fact. So, I don’t know if he “spins” a few things, or what? His books are out of print now, but you can find copies on Amazon.

@alan30189, you are correct that Blue Jacket gave Simon Kenton the hole in the head in jury after Kenton escaped a different gauntlet. Allen Eckert's books were classified as fiction by the academic historian snobs because they were written in narrative form and told the unabashed truths that the professor historians were too ashamed to include in their own histories. Eckert was snubbed by those who would not tell the whole truth in their own works. Eckert's work was impeccably researched and written and he freely admits in his preface pages that he took some liberties on how specific conversations might have went between parties, but that he did so with evidence that the conversation most probably went as he wrote in his books. To the Kentucky History Channel, I have read and know that there were two Girty brothers who had ultimately sided with the Indians and rode in the same circles. And I have heard that Simon Girty actually did everything in his power to save Col William Crawford from torture and his life was threatened by the Indians if he pursued the subject further. And speculation has also been documented that the other Girty brother may have been the one who laughed, joked and walked away during Crawford's pleas to shoot him dead prior to more torture. Also, to say OUR history is racist is a fallacy. ALL history is racist, which can be acknowledged, but focus on the events and why they happened in the grand scheme of things and stop being apologists. Our history happened and needs to be told with ALL the great deeds and misdeeds on ALL sides. No more, no less, no lies and no agendas. Simon Kenton was a hero and a man's man, and he ended up becoming great friends with many of the Indians he had fought in the past. A friendship of mutual respect that only warriors can understand.

Oct 5 1774, that was just 5 days before battle of Pt Pleasant, Girty's brothers were bad eggs and did many of the things Simon got the name for as I understand it

Excellent work my ass. All they did was read a few excerpts from Eckert’s book and then wax racism in order to harmonize with the idiots in society.

Shawnee were a grandchild tribe of the Lenape or Delaware, if you read the red record of their history they came here via Central Asia but weren’t the first people here. They took lands from the Snake people and killed them off. The snakes probably took their lands from the Olmec and so on and so forth . Somebodies always taken lands from somebody. It’s mans inhumanity to man. Is it right ? No . But it’s been happening since time began. Read the Walam Olum , the red record of the Algonquin nations. A great read….

Amen. So sick and tired of these quasi-historians pretending like white people invented displacing civilizations and conquering lands. The double standard is so obvious and yet invariably obfuscated so shamelessly by these sanctimonious and obsequious liars. Let’s also not forget that many archaeological digs have shown extensive proof that before the Asian immigration into the Americas, Europeans had lived in what is now Canada and the United States before the Ice Age drove them back across or killed them. So calling them the Native Americans is actually textbook misnomer since Europeans were in fact the first people to have any settlement claim to this part of the world.

I think you hit it on the head when you said these men were just products of their time and environment. Beating someone nearly to death over a woman it's not what I would call an American but he was young and probably foolish in his youth. Also I believe Simon girty did try to save William Crawford's Life by offering money and goods but the Indians were not having it because they were furious over the massacre of those Christian Indians perpetrated by American troops.
