Great drill, I can see where this would be practical for a quick foot recovery when guarding an opponent.

Could you use this is as a workout to help comeback from a knee injury?

Great question. *Yes, however it depends on how far post-op you are and what you are cleared to do. I will typically progress to this drill at about 5 months post-op with my ACL return to sport athletes. They will start extremely small with the movement and will have already built acceptable strength and moved through other ballistic movements. Start slow, and remember everyone/surgery and recovery is different.

How far of a lateral jump would be considered excellent? How far can you do? What is the record? Currently I hit a distance of about 6 and a half feet jumping like this @ 210lbs.

That's a great question! Not something we have collected data on. 6 feet sounds pretty good. I would say 6-8 feet would be my best. However, remember distance is not the overall point of the drill. Don't forget about ground contact time (GCT), efficiency, balance, posture, landing mechanics and the ability to change directions quickly!

@@SimpleSpeedCoach Hahaha. Record 8 ft. I'm up to 7ft 6 inches at 193lbs and I feel anything above 7ft if you haven't worked hard at it would be pretentious to assume. Honestly from what you displayed here I'd be very impressed if you broke 6ft. You did several that were wonky at around 5ft where you were off balance, uncoordinated, and out of breath. If you could actually post a video of you doing 8ft you will EARN my THOROUGH RESPECT. It would also be foolish to assume that in the development of a 10ft lateral bound, that all those characteristics you mentioned would be well beyond what someone would be at if their max distance was around 6ft or less for example. In answering my own questions, the current records are at around 10-11ft. 6ft+ is 'good' for an average man. Anything above 6ft 6 inches would be considered excellent. 7ft+ is what to strive for as an athlete, and will improve your sprinting speed and most of all vertical jump in accordance with horizontal jumping development. As this correlation is seen in almost all scientific studies posted on pubmed. Hockey athletes receive the most development from doing lateral bounds for example.

@@josephbenuzzi159 #1 If you read my previous comment, distance is not the overall point of the drill. #2 I am showing the drill in a confined space for the sake of the video - hence the wonky. #3 My distance is not based off assumption. I am 1,000 % positive I could easily do 8 ft if I wanted. During my younger years I had a 43 inch approach jump, 10 foot 8 inch broach jump and 4.36 sec. 40 yard dash according to NFL scouts. #4 Be careful who you call uncoordinated - tell me if this is uncoordinated after you try it. Link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/asCTmtFhrtW6dqc.html #5 Have you ever demoed an exercise and then spoke and then demoed it again? You lose your breath. I coach 10 hours a day, I am always out of breath. #6 I'm to old to care about any single persons respect. What we do helps athletes and we are confident in our training, coaching and methodologies. Everything I do on KZfaq is free for those who cannot afford normal training.

Hey is it okay to do this with dumbbells?
@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could. You don't really need to add weight, but if you do I would recommend using a medicine ball over dumbbells.
