Colombian here, we do use foquiar, also when I was in the Colombian army we used to use that word s lot to say our commanders we want to have some break. Comandante: Y esas son las órdenes del día ¿Algo más? Soldados: ¡Foco, mi teniente! Meaning we wanted to get some rest. Foco is the noun for the verb foquiar.

I use foquiar constantly and never heard of nanay cucas, goes to show how varied the language is

A rather aggressive tex-Mex guy telling me I speak Spanish I am Mexican! (when I told him I know virtually nothing of Mexican people he was rather insulted). I don't know if it's ignorance, but MExicans in the US come across as very pushy towards making everyone Mexican.
