Holi is a Hindu festival. It is celebrated to welcome the spring and good over evil. We put colorful powder on each other. People wear white or old clothes. It is not done like in the song. It is not like a carnival. It is played among friends and family and neighbors. People also make drinks using cannabis and get intoxicated. 😃

Many holi events are organised in a very funky way in different states and cities of India but normally people played holi at home with family, friends or relatives. They used water balloons to throw on each other, water guns, dry gulal (colors) putting on eachother. They eat tasty homemade snacks and food. They dance on different party songs. Mostly people love to wear the dress they want to discard it soon.... 🤣 but in holi events their is particular a dress code which is white in colour. Every state celebrated in their own unique way.

Here in western Indian (Maharashtra specifically), we celebrate Holi a day before. A whole village or a community comes together to worship a specific dried tree stem... At midnight we heap hay, wood, dried coconut leaves, etc. around the stem and then burn it... It indicates burning of evils within and triumph of goodness.... There is a lore behind this festival - "a woman named 'holika' was given a boon that she would never burn. She schemed to burn her nephew by sitting him on her lap and setting fire around as she would remain intact. Her Nephew Pralhad was a great worshiper of Lord Vishnu so was unharmed and Holika ended up burning." The holi burning is mostly done in farms as harvesting is already done. The ashes are good for the soil. The next day traditionally, people used to take the same ashes and soil, mix it with water and smear it on each other (ashes and soil have great antiseptic properties by the way)... In present day, the soil and mud is replaced by powdered colours... P. S. With our rich history, we have many festivals and celebrations... Each of which are attached to various lores and/or seasonal changes and have some science behind it.....

lol Same in north, UP etc. The bonfire day is called holi. Next day is called dhulendi when people play with colors. It's also first day of chaitra month thus new year day. Bonfire is also seen as good bye to last day of the samvat . So multiple reasons are added to the festival.

❤️Holi is a famous Hindu festival that is celebrated in every part of India with utmost joy and enthusiasm. The ritual starts by lighting up the bonfire one day before the day of Holi and this process symbolizes the triumph of good over the bad. On the day of Holi people play with colours with their friends and families and in evening they show love and respect to their close ones with Gulal(powdered colour). N Yes we get those from shops ... There are sweets , snacks, Thandai(drink prepared with a mixture of almonds, fennel seeds, watermelon kernels, rose petals, pepper, poppy seeds, cardamom, saffron, milk and sugar). ❤️

Holi is essentially a celebration of spring and new life. It represents the way the colourful flowers bloom and rain showers in the summer. We play it with water and powdered colours which were (and sometimes still are) made from crushed flowers. Holi has been celebrated for so many years in Northern belt of the Ganges that it has a mythical/religious origin story but in the modern times it's just the biggest party of the year Oh by the way adults also socially drink a cannabis milkshake.. idk what that represents but I guess it's related to letting loose and enjoying oneself

The colours we used were earlier made by many flowers of different colours. But nowadays chemicals and synthetic colours are used to reduce cost and time. Also we get very strong pigments and if u use them then how much u bath it won't come off in a day. So alot of people can be seen all coloured evn after days of celebration. And the Hiranyakashipu thing. Its actually a legend that he was an atheist king but had a son named Prahlad who believed in God. He wanted to kill his son because he didn't like his son to be religious, but failed every time. So once he called his sister holika (she had a blessing that no fire could burn her) and asked her to sit with his son in the fire to burn him to death. She did as said but eventually the son came out and she burnt in fire.so the choti holi(first day) is celebrated by burning big bonfire (like 6-8ft tall) and doin pooja(worship) to ward off evil. We play only with colours at this night. And next day real holi in the morning with everything, water colour, water balloons,dj and dance. And it's celebrated all over India . Few places celebrate different way. Like the radha Krishna as u said, they are goddess and God. Idk much abt it but in short radha got angry on krishna and hit him with a stick. So on 2nd day of holi, on cities where radha n krishna, women hit their husbands or partner with big sticks (tho men have shield to protect and only their partner bit em) along with usual colour and water .

In olden times Holi was mostly an event of farmers from north and middle India. Holi is a huge pile of fire which is lit on fire after sun set on the full moon night according to the Hindu calendar it also represents the change of climate from cold to hot and farmers know their work is going to start also the farmers used the weeds from the farms into the flames so a it's a win over the evil weed that grows in their lands in winter. The next day the freshly opened up land free from weeds is dry and used to apply on the faces of each other as a celebration of land is clean and work can begin that is called " Dulwad" means dust. No color was used by the farmers just plain soil from their own farms. Later the organic colours were used by the kings and their subjects just to make their farmers happy and to show them they were a part of their celebration but that's was not honest just politics. Today almost every one celebrate Holi with colours and water also exchange lots of sweets but that is a modern way to enjoy and because stress free.

Colorful powder is basically used everywhere; but the celebration could be slightly different- some places use a lot of water balloons, water guns “pichari” etc; “bhang” which is cannabis milk or sweets used in some places; also people do “dhuni” which is bum fire … but basically colors and food with friends, family, neighbors or anybody who wants to join !!!

Yes Holi is a spring celebration festival to celebrate the good over evil. The colours are called Gulal in Hindi used to be made from plant sources but yes it's cornstarch with cosmetic grade dyes, now you can get organic colours to be safe. Holi is celebrated with family-friends-neigbhours, with eatables, snacks, also with the intoxicated drink called thandai or bhang that is prepared and have fun with holi party like songs.

The color powder was traditionally made of dried potato starch mixed with natural plant extract dyes. Now a days, hugh demand and rampant profiteering has resulted in synthetic/harmful stuff dominating the market. Still, you can find organic/safe colors if you are keen to have it and ready to spend a bit more.

Holi festival is practically a welcome festival for spring or summer season.....by this time new crops are ready to harvest....hence the celebration. In my culture, we roast some fresh crop in holy fire of holika dahan and eat it as god's blessing

Yes holi is celebrated in the same way in every part of india & no we don't usually wear a white attire we literally choose the worst and dirtiest outfit of the year to wear on holi coz at last all those colors are gonna ruin ur clothes. If there's a professional holi party then you're gonna wear white clothes but if you're gonna play in ur home with your society friends then we don't even dare to wear a good outfit😂
