I love how much effort you put into your hair experiments. It's so informative and helpful. ❤️ I used to think I was 4C, but it was perptually dry and high porosity after coloring last summer. Now that I take care of my hair, it went back to low porosity with a noticable curl pattern. I gave up trying to figure out my hair type. As long as it's healthy and growing, I'm happy with whatever I have.

Now I'm just trying to figure out a way to keep it healthy with the least amount of effort, no matter the curl type.

😳 This topic was such a challenge to research! The LOIS Hair Typing System isn't widely talked about and there aren't any visual aids and examples to look at. Most of the haircare forums that were around years ago are outdated and the data can no longer be accessed. So, of course, in true Toya fashion 🤓 I decided to nerd out and create a new and updated resource to help you out. I even have a PDF download for you to compare and test your own hair texture. I love what I do, and more importantly, I love helping you. 🥰 PDF: bit.ly/36u6dfr

What I learned: My hair's 4A/B with a patch of 3C in the back. My 4A hair is almost completely S shaped with the rare I or kinky straight strand, my 4B hair is O, S, or L depending on which part of my head it's from, and my 3C hair is S shaped too (sometimes it can almost confused it for 2A at some points). I'm torn between whether I have a cotton or spongy texture (learned somewhere that brown natural hair has a tendency to be drier and have less natural sheen than black or darker natural hair irregardless of how well moisturized it is, which for me is true, so it's hard to tell). Very little sheen or shine without oil both stretched and flat ironed. My hair strands are a mixture of course and fine. I have medium to high density (mostly medium).

The amount of time and dedication you made into consolidating all the information out there on hair types, is obvious and greatly appreciated . I've found through my daughters hair that different part of their heads - like the front - have looser coils or waves then say the middle or back part. Also the length of their hair is a factor too. I've always thought they had 3C- 4B hair but definitely going to do a bit more testing with the guide that you made. New subscriber here 😏🤗.

wow that clip of you wetting your hair is possibly the best explanation for porosity i've ever had. i could never understand it, but i've never seen someone try and wet low porosity hair before. I have no idea what texture my hair is though; I seem to have a lot of shine, my hair absorbs water pretty okay (i can't just stand under the shower and expect that to work, I have to ruffle my hair for 30 seconds or so to get it the whole way through but it doesn't really struggle), and I have a lot of frizz. Sounds like silky, but my hair strands are really thick? It explicitly says fine strands, so what gives?

Naptual85 irritates me for that very reason. She's been doing hair videos for long enough to know she's not a type 4 which makes me conclude that she's deliberately misleading people for clicks. Type 4 hair gets more clicks.

The ease of saturation is actually the hardest for me to determine! My hair is dense, so the whole volume of hair takes ages to get wet, but that doesn't necessarily mean the individual strands take long to soak up the water, right? I wish the water glass porosity test was actually accurate! It's too difficult to eliminate all other factors to purely test porosity, and I'm not consistent enough to accurately test the moisturizing power of products. Sometimes I add moisturizer on very wet hair, sometimes on damp, sometimes dry; sometimes I seal with oil, sometimes a butter, sometimes a pomade or a combination of them; sometimes the weather is windy and dry, sometimes it's hot and humid; sometimes I have the heating on in the house, sometimes I don't; sometimes I sleep with a satin scarf (various ones of varying quality and age), sometimes a SLap cap, sometimes a bonnet, usually a satin pillowcase, but not always, sometimes I keep my head covered all day long if I'm not going anywhere; I might air-dry in 6 big twists one week, in 10 tight braids another week, I might blow-dry; did I pre-poo, did I clarify, did I oil rinse, did I do some ayurvedic mask?; my hydration isn't always to standard, nor is my diet and exercise, my mood and motivation and habits... So, is it easy to wet my hair? I'm not sure. Does it take moisture readily? I dunno! Does it hold onto moisture well? Sometimes! So confusing!

I love this video. I think that I’m a combo of mostly O with a few L’s & S’s . Wow I actually have fine strands, I always thought I had coarse hair. I’m probably thready because when I was relaxed that mess had to be rinsed fast, and whenever I got it colored it would take color and bleach well. I think I have a little bit of cottoney too. 😂 You are a trooper. Side note a while ago you did a video we’re you mentioned clip ins helped your hair. I just wanted to say that I finally bought some clip ins thanks to you. I like how one bundle looks but I’m definitely buying another bundle.

Heeeyy!! 👋🏾 This typing thing is so interesting, right? I love how you’re identifying your hair right away...Yes! Clip in are actually my favorite protective style outside of twists in a bun. I’ve only worked with one clip in company and I still have the clip ins. Great when I want to give my hair a break. I hope you enjoy them!

I like this video a lot. I do think this is a more objective and useful system then the one used bow, but can you do a video on why this even matter...like what now? How can this system help you care for or understand your hair. Thanks for the great content🤗
