FYI for all the youngsters…she’s sampling Tom Tom Club’s original “Genius of Love” from 1982 which Mariah sampled first and used on “Fantasy” in 1995, now Latto in 2021. It’s a sample of a sample’s sample using a timeless hook and bop. I’ll allow it. 🙌

I am 55 yrs old and rap was my 1st love from when i was in mid teens. Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD etc. Latto has her own sound unlike so many male rappers nowadays. They sound da same, flow hooks everyway possible. Shes in her own league

First Mariah Carey did a great job in Fantasy, back in 1995, with the samples of Tom Tom Club's 1981 song "Genius of Love", now Latto in 2021 after 26 from Mariah, and after 40 years from the original sample song... THIS IS JUST AMAZING... love it!

Then my son randomly was singing Tom Tom Club lyrics a couple days later and had me watch the video and I couldn’t believe I had forgotten the original (I was in Jr High in 81 so I’ve heard it a million times). So, yeah, turns out the whole reason I liked this song wasn’t even hers.
