500 mile bike review on the lauf seigla rigid.
Had lots of questions about my new gravel bike so after getting a race in and putting the bike through its paces its finally time to give you my thoughts on this gravel bike.
I am no way affiliated, sponsored or paid by lauf, this is my honest opinion on a bike I purchased with my own money.
Hope you enjoy!!!

top shelf content, thanks Nick. I was ready to pull the trigger last year on this bike, but the lack of online content (even though Lauf is very communicative), couldn't sell me. I ended up on a Trek Checkpoint SL7 which is stellar. Lauf has nailed exactly what you need in a gravel bike. So much innovation. If this video was out before I bought, then I would be riding a Lauf. One super helpful point about the external cables is I was going to buy the suspension fork model and a ridgid fork. Swapping between them would be a breeze.

Really appreciate the comment. I know how you felt its a weird thing when you cant find the info, for me after hearing from people who own them and love them and well the 30day return that was worth the gamble for me. Still got your self a nice ride 🤙 I think the swap fork should be a bigger selling point for them, they seem to be lacking in marketing on that or even offer a double fork package 🤷‍♂️

My Seigla is on order, green moss and I can't wait to bomb down some of the tougher stuff my all-road struggles with. My buddy has the True Grit and he loves it as both an endurance bike for fondos with slicks and a true gravel that can take the hard stuff with the stock tires. My Seigla already has transmission in back, which will be great for the steeps, but I'm considering upping crankset to 46T aero for a more appropriate range. My mullet all-road does spin out too often on the decent.

Love the green thats an awesome color, definitely 46t or 48t i hear wonderful things about that transmission throw on some 2.1s throw that bike down whatever you can find your going to have an absolute blast congrats 🤙

Thanks for the stellar review! I was so excited to see a follow up on this bike. The white paint job looks amazing too! Just curious what road bike do you have and what size is that? I was looking for something a bit more relaxed than my CAAD12 but found it has nearly the same geometry lol So interested in this Lauf so thanks for putting a review out there!
@wherespinto

Appreciate the feedback and giving it a watch, thank you. I do love the white paint job its always dirty but gives it character lol My road bikes is a Argon 18 Nitrogen in a size M which is close to a 54. I bought it used and when I was doing comparisons for this gravel bike found out argon suggest I be on a S. Now after spending time on the gravel bike and going back to the road bike i definitely wish my road bike was a Small 🤷‍♂️ The lauf is such a solid bike I still cant get over the price point for what you get I had to share my thoughts because for the months I was looking I couldn’t find the information I wanted on the bike. Happy Riding 🤙

Great review! My Seigla Transmission Weekend Warrior is on order, but I went with the suspension fork for more comfort. I do not race, just solo 40/50/60 miles rides to keep my body and legs in shape :) The only thing I will add later on is the dropper post. I am 5.11 / 32 inseam and had a chance to test ride size M it fits perfectly, so went with size M.

I like your aggro position, the bike looks fast! I also ride 700X45 on the road group rides, love it too. There's clearance for 700X50, which I will try one day. BUT... I cannot imagine a 1X on those group rides (or in a gravel race for that matter, to each his own), I'd be searching for the right gears far too often. That said, excellent review!

Great review. Very helpful. I'm about to pull the trigger on the Seigla with Grit fork. Even after you explained (to an extent) your choice of a small, it seems odd that you then put a super long stem on it. The difference in the reach between the small and medium is only 10mm and ETT is 21mm. The stack is just 27mm higher, and you could just slam the stem. Why not a medium and just run the shorter stock stem? On the toe overlap, do you ever ride it on singletrack with tight switchbacks? That's where its always a problem for me.
@wherespinto

Thanks for the watch and comment. As i mentioned in the video after looking at all the specs the med would have and was longer more stretched out then my old gravel bike that was to big. So went small because im more comfortable adding length to make a bike fit proper where as a med theres limited options to shorten with an already short stem there wasnt much I could do to make it fit also longer cranks and wider bars i didnt want. Also med and small will ride completely different and have different positions. I personally hate short stems have always rode 100 110 stem length and prefer an aggressive bike. Lots of single track where i live not a problem with 45s but 2.1s definitely more noticeable but still not a deal breaker im used to toe over lap have had on all my bikes even here theres toe over lap on the med. Hope that helps best of luck its an amazing bike and with its tire clearance there isn’t a deal that comes close at that price point. 🤙

Great video and super in-depth. I am a big fan of this bike all around except that it doesn't have fender mounts or rack mounts. I found a picture of someone using a Tailfin Areo Rack and bag on it but thought they were a bit too expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations on racks that can be applied to this Lauf bike for a lower price than the Tailfin? I plan on trekking to the grocery store and want to have a rack that is removeable so I can go out on the weekends and hit the roads/gravel without the rack.
@wherespinto
@wherespinto 2 ай бұрын
Thank you appreciate the watch and comment. Funny you say that, not having the mounts was a selling point for me as I planned on using the tailfin aero pack. Expensive set up but it really is one of the best and they last just a solid investment for packs. Also check the lauf Facebook group lots of great information there and all kinds of setups. Sure you can get some good recommendations there for packs 🤙

Thanks for the review! I’m about to pull the trigger on the race transmission model. Spec wise this bike frame has it all other than some downtube storage but that’s not a dealbreaker. Like many others though I’m trying to make up my mind between the S and the M sizes. 5’ 10” 32 inseam just like you. I’ve always ridden 56cm road bikes but between Med and Large mtbs. What size road bike frames do you normally ride ? Liked & subbed btw 👍🏻
@wherespinto
@wherespinto 2 ай бұрын
Downtube storage would be amazing thats what was disappointing with canyons new grail the cheaper model gets rid of it. But I was in the same boat not a deal breaker but be nice, hopefully they offer that in the future. Sounds to me youd probably feel more at home on that M. I usually ride a 54 or a little smaller road bike. There was a good comment someone left about sizing on the s vs m, going medium you could get a comfort fit or a comfort/performance fit while s would really only be that comfort/performance fit as the s is definitely a more aero aggressive and the m is more of a upright. Hope that helps a little also that 30 day return is a peace of mind. Appreciate the view and subscribe 🤙

I'm on a medium and am the exact same size. With the medium and a 32" inseam my saddle to bar height is much closer to even. His saddle is significantly higher in regards to the bars than my medium. I saw guys our size on forums going for the large to get the bars higher yet (more upright). I personally think a large would be too big. I'm very happy with the medium. I will say coming from a medium Slate, the Lauf feels like a bit bigger bike which is good IMO. I think the Slate was a tiny bit small for me. So far I'm loving mine, super comfortable and smooth.

Just huck the tire insert if u have to and pick it up later, or try to carry it on ur torso or bags or jersey if ur racing🤷‍♂️. Inserts r worth it unless ur pro with free replacmet parts. Im pretty sure mine cushions the ride feel in a air damping kind of way, like a tolken insert in a air shock. Vitorria insert is what i use. And soon to be released there even lighter inser made for even wider 45+mm (probably not as dense tough foam tho, but looks less likely to absorb as much sealant)

This bike (with leaf fork) has made me a much better single track rider up to the point that i might buy a hardtail one day again after 8 ish years of swearing hardtails suck after buying full sus. More challenging and fun underbiking and way less maintenance and cost usually

All the frames are the same and come with a wireless sram, the top model does come with carbon rims and sram eagle or red. Being i had xplr force and planned on changing the rims to what I wanted later with an eagle there was really no reason to spend the extra 2 to 3k 🤷‍♂️

@@wherespinto what are your 1X road ideas? I have a GT Grade that I converted to 1X and do a lot of road riding in addition to gravel. It's pretty flat here (Michigan), so I'm actually running a 46T Force up front w/ 11-28 in the back, which is great for road cadence shifts. Works well for me. What's your take on this bike on pavement? Thinking of getting a rigid Seigla for pave/gravel combo bike.
