9 ай бұрынIcelandic Chinese singer-songwriter Laufey has a couple of theories regarding the popularity of her hit song “From the Start,” which has surpassed 80 million Spotify streams since its release in May. Maybe it’s got something to do with the music-a frothy mix of jazz and bossa nova that definitely stands out in today’s pop landscape. But it’s also the feeling the song describes-the awkwardness that takes hold when we’re in the presence of someone we secretly like.
“I think it’s also the brutal honesty of the lyrics,” Laufey says on the latest episode of Verified. “It’s very literal. I’m not trying to hide anything. I think a lot of people have felt that way before.”

@@saftobulle No doubt she has, when I said she has raw talent I didn't mean it in that way. What I wanted to point out is that she has a really solid skill for singing and playing instruments compared to most mainstream pop artists nowadays. And part of that is talent, cause not anyone is able to ever sing like that, but definitely most of it is her merit.

A lot of her song's lyrics are actually so simple and so relatable but she just makes it sound so beautiful and a lot more complex then it actually is. Love the phrase she said at the end of the video "I just wanted it to sound like a sunset"

Laufey, in my opinion, is an unequivocally sublime artist. Not only is her music cathartically euphonious, but her personality, emotions, and authenticity is reflected within the art she creates. To top it all off, she’s bringing Jazz, my favorite genre, to the forefront of my generation’s attention. This, I consider incredibly valuable. Her work truly is a testament to the fact that Jazz is not a dying art. But rather, an ever-evolving entity of timeless beauty.

weird that 'a breath of fresh air' in pop music is a style that sounded basically the same 60 years ago. I'm so glad that an actual young musician get's this kind of a huge spotlight for once.
