+83RBurke I would guess about 3000# by the time its all loaded. A lot depends on how it's rigged. A Learned dory is build tough, then the exterior is sprayed with fiberglass.

The boat is very seaworthy for its size. The high bow, flared sides and flat bottom make it very safe. In rough conditions, the boat will pound you if you don't slow down. Go slow and it's fine.

It's not my design, but is very similar to my Anacapa model. 50 Hp is plenty for that boat, but could go as high as 75.

@@tjkid07 My understanding of these boats in this region is that they are never under 65 horse for the typical 22ft sea dory, but few are over 90. They could do fine with less in lakes etc...but less than 70 can be underpowered with a full load of fishermen and full box of fish, especially if you want a boat capable of runs for tuna in the summer. That boat looks like it was built by a local builder named Learned, who has since retired.

Being at the stern is safe. You don't want to be between the boat and the beach if the boat somehow gets sideways though. There is a small stem on the transom so that once the boat is deep enough to start the motor, the pusher can get in.

@@davidkeller8309 stern is fine as long as you think you can get around to the side if a wave turns out to be stronger then you are. Earlier the boat was side on to the beach with a guy trying to push it out, that can end in disaster. You need to pull the nose around from the seaward side, use an attached line if necessary.

@@psychalogy The pusher in this video was trying to straighten out he boat from mid ship. You need to straighten it from the bow or stern where you have better leverage. Once straight, keep it pointed into the waves. The boat is designed to take the waves head on. The wind on this day made it a challenge.
