For the "Magic Minute" Video i made for Google Android Wear I built this huge Clock. It is made from reclaimed Wood that I got from a Sawmill, Steel, Brass and LOTS of Lightbulbs.
The Clock works by turning on an off the bulbs you need to showcase the time. I thought about trying to actually make it work but then I realized it is much easier to use Stopmotion to make it work for the Video.
I might try to figure out a way to turn this into a working clock in another video...maybe.
Thanks for watching!!

Very nice project , Laura. Stylish video as well. Turning this into a working clock isn't that big of a problem (as you of course know), but most probably not a good idea: light bulbs don't like switching, so you'd have to be prepared to swap them a lot.

"Cut the blue wire." ... Sorry, for the stupid action movie reference. I like it. With the warm glow and wood strips, the build reminds me of a carnival or an old basketball court. As for a working clock from scratch, it might be easier to switch the bulbs to something more manageable like 12V. Personally, controlling 230V lamps with hobby electronics would a bit too daunting for me.

I really like the clock idea. It's almost there. All you need is a 555 and parts, some 4017's (decade counter), some 4511's (seven segment driver/latch), and some Darlington arrays (ULN2803A is good for 50V. 0.5A) could be cobbled together to drive the "segments". In your clock''s case (3) bulbs per segment. You could up the game and drop in a PIC microcontroller, some crystals, and drive the counter that way for more accuracy. Check a KZfaq Channel called Mr. Carlson's Lab. He's got a great series on how to build a programmable frequency counter that could be modified to work for this

Pask Makes its not hard to do it. Change the wiring, change the lightsources (they dont like up to 1440 cycles a day), use some relays or transistors and a arduino.

You can turn that into a clock fairly easily with a cheap single board computer and a bit of coding. I've made clocks in Second Life, and when I made a digital clock, I had to figure out how to turn on/off the proper segments to display the numbers 0-9.

@RobertSzasz
@RobertSzasz 7 жыл бұрын
some 7 segment led drivers and some relays would probably be the easiest way to build it. Synchronizing with the mains to fire triacs at 0 voltage, or using available chips/modules that implement zero crossing switching would be the easiest way to implement a silent/small controller
