Good build, although personally I wouldn't have glued those bits to the floor... if the person who lives there, or if someone else moves in there, they are gonna have a heck of a time getting that up without wrecking the floor... without replacing it completely.

I like Smudo being featured in your movies, it demonstrates that some pets just feel very comfortable companions around busy humans and their tools. My cats and dogs all like coming into the workshop and I have to stop work and give them a brushing or combing, then they are satisfied and wander off to do their other important things like sleeping or climbing trees.

One down-side of loft beds is that you are up where the air is hotter. Another, more dangerous, is that smoke and fumes fill the area near the ceiling first and can quickly overcome a person. So, make sure you have smoke alarms working and at least a fan to circulate air in the room. Otherwise, great project.

I used to live in New Orleans. A ton of the old places there have very high ceilings. 12 feet (4 meters) is quite common, but there are plenty at 16 feet (bit over 5 meters), even one place was I worked in (worked on renovations way back when) was 18 feet (right at 6 meters . . . two floors, and plenty attic mind you). Throwback designs from the days before Air Conditioning. Many have been converted to rentals. I worked with a guy who lived in the Irish Channel area, and his rental was 12 or 14 feet high, but just two small rooms with a bath (whole house was converted to 8 rentals, the old indoor stair area was where the baths were put). Owner was some sort of family of his, and I told him to get permission to put up essentially a second floor in the bed/living at least, but an area above the kitchen would work as well. Last dealings with him I had they were considering it.

Look great, and you make it look so simple! I once did a similar process. I assumed the room was square. It was not. That left a lot of head banging.

GIANT bed! I hope you don't have to get out of it quickly in the middle of the night. I wish my dogs would lay quietly by and let me work - they have to help, a lot.

Nice build Laura! I did something like that about 7 years ago for my daughter, but in a space big enough for a twin mattress. Built a shelf that attached the side, a desk for underneath, and of course the ladder. All out of dimensional lumber!

Great job. Looks like it is so strong you could park a car on that platform. This reminds me of a friend in San Francisco moved into a tiny apartment in the city and we built a bed in the closet. Bed on top and all his clothes and belongings underneath!

Looks beefy! I built a similar loft bed for the same reason a few years ago. I made mine freestanding though. Was big enough to hold a queen bed with enough height under for me to sit at my desk.

Just wondering the door that is being blocked off, was it a closet or just another access door to the room? LOVE your video and the style that they are produced. I'm a female wood worker too, but NO where to the level you are at.! You can do EVERYTHING from wood working to electrical, to welding. Your a very talented young lady. I also watch for your music selections and have purchased a few. I don't have it in front of me but my favorite is Diamonds and Pearls I think its call?
