Hey, just a tip that I use for all the "neat unidentifiable stuff I'll get to later" I have a small tower of stackable open front clear bins. I sort by material; wood, metals, and cords. I call it my creativity tower lol when I get bored, stumped, or need inspiration, I take a look. Odd bits and pieces, ufo parts, and such. It helps me actually use that junk to keep it sitting for ages, and helps finish projects I get stuck on. Hope that helps. P.S. I'm super jealous of this shop, mine is less than 1/4 this big haha

+McCauley's Design thanks, i think having enough space makes it easier to be productive and effective. at one point i was working on 4 projects at the same time. so at the end of the day if you have enough work going on, the space will make it easier to make more money...at least that is my experience. :) my workshop before that was at my house as well, super small but i also liked it.

For boxes full of random stuff, stage the parts on a table plus a box label. Then take a picture with your cell. Place all the stuff back to a box, stick the label outside the box and put the box on a dark place on your shop. Then continue with the next box. If you need something look at your pictures. These will save you hours and hours of entertainment.

Nice videos Laura, thanks for posting them up. Weird stuff which, you don't know what it is, or it doesn't fit in a category, or there isn't a bunch of similar stuff it fits in with or even vaguely matches . . . This is called "tut", rhymes with put. Over the years of messing with Lambretta scooters and Gilera, Honda, Moto Guzzi, BSA and Triumph motorbikes I accumulated a lot of little bits of well, bits. Springs, odd screws, funny-shaped bits of metal. Broken tools, all completely useless stuff ! Until the day I need a piece of metal or plastic, only about that long, probably near to that diameter, maybe that I can adjust it to do - whatever, and I have it in the tut box ! That thing you have, looks like a door handle except it's the wrong way round - I bet you find a use for it in a few years time. If you have the space, keep it! Ok, I'm probably a worse hoarder than your current landlord - but seriously, a box (or3!) of tut is a genuine resource. Like off-cuts of wood, you don't keep them because they're useful NOW, but they probably WILL be in the future. Same thing. Good luck with the new shop, gonna be interesting !
@laurakampf
@laurakampf 8 жыл бұрын
+The Trevor you are so right! happend to me a couple times and that makes you appreciate all your "tut" even more. if keeping stuff saved me a trip to the hardwarestore...i will keep stuff :) thanks for watching!

About those odd things you mention at 2:36 - maybe you could have a tall but narrow "portfolio" like drawer you could pull out with either modular shelving or magnetic backing to hold it in place? Kind of like a pull-out spice rack but for odds and ends?

I see you sleep in your car also. I do not full time but,I do a lot when we travel. Did you know there is a whole community that are called van dwellers? If you are interested in Van dwelling tips and info I would recommend you watch Nomadic Fanatic on youtube. He is what inspired me to start trying to make videos. Great video and shop . I am excited to see your new one as well. Have a great day.
