Just last night on a Tuesday no less(day of mars) I just realized that I had a holly tree in my back yard!!!, I was absolutely dumbfounded!!! To think I was actually going to cut it down next summer not knowing that I have one of the most sacred of trees on my own property

I do not share any sort of pagan beliefs however as a Christian I do consider Holly to be a very beautiful plant a very beautiful tree particularly in this time of year of the holiday season where people need to be of good cheer in these dark times that we are going through

If I may I'd like to bring up a point in regards to when the the Oak king takes up the crown and when the Holly takes up its crown. @2:20 you mentioned the Oak takes the crown at Midwinter (Winter Solstice) and rules until Midsummer (Summer Solstice). Now, my understanding of it from what I have read is that the Oak king takes on the crown at the Spring Equinox when just about everything has been reborn and has come back to life. The Holly king takes the crown at the Autumn Equinox when the first chilly nights beacon the end of Summer and holds the crown until Spring Equinox. Both of the kings die and are reborn over and over again each year. The Oak king is reborn and is at his weakest (as most babies are) on the Winter Solstice (Midwinter), just as the days start to turn from getting shorter to longer. Likewise and conversely the Holly king is reborn at the Summer Solstice just as the days start to get ever so shorter. I am by no means an expert on this and it should be noted there are of course variations among Celtic practices since at its height it spanned across much of Europe before it was sort of corralled up on the British Isles and Ireland. Again thank you sooooo much for this video! Oh and the bit about Hollywood at the end? BRILLIANT!

Yup, I agree, sorry if I didn't make that clear in the video. I think the the story was phrased differently from Christian times onwards, and possibly the title 'King' had been added then. The story of the battle definitely goes back into antiquity. Thanks :)

This is such a coincidence! I went to the woods today and found holly (didn’t really know what to do with it yet, but felt I wanted to bring some), then for no reason I felt drawn to take some Ivy. Nothing else, just those two. Now I get why! It’s masculin and feminin (balancing) 😂 I pulled some cards and I think I would like to clear some childhood ‘sibling rivalry wounds’ with the holly (and perhaps Ivy 🤔🤷‍♀️). I know nothing about the history. I B only know what comes to my mind and then I look into it. I got the image of a tattoo of a holly twig one day several months ago. It’s haunted me and literally come to me in dreams. As I decided to find a sprig in my yard to create a tattoo idea, I added ivy with it. Again, no idea to the history but I felt they needed to be together. Like yin and yang, that’s what I tell people who ask why. I’m in Kinsale, Virginia in America. My home was built in 1750. I’m sensitive to things and feel this is something important that I needed to follow up on. Months went by and yesterday was my birthday. I wanted to get my tattoo on my left arm on my birthday. It would take over three hours. The stars aligned and as one person had just canceled with an amazing artist at the studio, I was the next call and got the slot (not those on the waiting list). I knew I had to call at that moment or I would miss it. I listened to my gut but it was my boyfriend who was going to call about an appointment after he took a shower. Something said to call right then. I got the slot and the most amazing tattoo! And now I watch your video, and you mention the ivy. I want to know more. I’m an artist.
