"Get a product and customize it" The first time I took an expensive PC case and drilled a bunch of holes into it to attach a screen was the most nerve racking and liberating moment. Knowing that you can break this, but it will be better afterward. It is great to be a maker.

I think the vlog needs no schedule. Talk, when something interesting happens in your life and you want to share it and have the time for doing so. Nothing worse than a rushed or boring vlog.

Oh and ditto on doing the Vlogs as you feel them! Don't hold to tightly to a schedule. Keeping them real and as they feel right to you is what makes them enjoyable and educational as to your process and development as a person, artist, and maker.

I find it funny how the catch phrase these days is Maker.... but it isn't a new idea. Being a "Renaissance Man" is exactly what you are describing: the da Vinci's of the world. Being able to work with wood, steel, fabric, leather, painting, music, etc. Coming up with ideas and being able to run with them in whatever medium it takes. It is a great feeling to be able to point and something and say "I made that". We can see it in your smile as you show us your new leather bag. And just remember that for every Mona Lisa or Last Supper, da Vinici had many things that never got beyond a sketch whether it be because it wasn't the best idea or he had not yet the skill to do it. Keep "making" and we'll keep watching (and making too just not on camera).

Do your VLOGs when you feel like you have something to say. So far it's been amazing to follow your path and to get this glimpse inside your thought process every once in a while. I wouldn't want those to feel forced or uncomfortable. Also ... the way these VLOGs are very personal their interval needs to work for you first and your audience second. Well - that's my opinion of course. Cheers and thanks as always!

Laura, weekly or less often. Go with what feels right. If you have something to say then vlog, but don't feel pressured into weekly. You are producing all this great stuff for free for us all to watch. You seem to enjoy what you do very much so don't force it or the joy will go out of it for you. Rant over, I am.now going into my workshop to improve some things!

My idea! You could do a vlog during your builds. It will give a small teaser as to what's to come! Also for example you could do it during a fundamental woodworking part of your build, like if you're doing a butterfly joint (bow tie spline - they have various names so whatever you call it) and you can do 60 second how-to's during that? It'd be really cool to see. Love your vibe, your passion for creation is fantastic and I always look forward to your videos, so pleased for you that you're doing as well on KZfaq as you deserve!

hi laura, love the vlog. i think what i like most about it is the very personal connection you have with your art/work. I also think when you ahve to verbalize it in front of a camera or even just at home among friends then your ideas become real. speaking our thoughts gives them substance and thats vital for growth and very healthy. so to answer your question as to how often you should do them. i would say as often as you feel theres something you want to talk about. maybe a weekly update diary where you vlog for a few minutes everyday about whatever randomness is in your head and then it can be edited down and summarized. whatever you do just keep being the best you , that you can be. your an inspiring person and that energy is a gift. so just keep being who you are and god bless you for the new year

Great job Laura... you fan the maker flames in us all and I'm sure you are inspiring so many others to just give it a try :) The vlogs are great because you have stuff to share with us, so maybe a frequency driven by nothing more than this is cool - it can flex just like our making

I think that just you being you (like you said) is the reason behind your KZfaq and other successes. There's something about you that just translates to the "average joe" in all of us. Being true to yourself is what keeps me coming back. Vlogs let your viewers into who you really are as aperson, love the Record of the Week as well. Projects are always more entertaining for us makers, but I believe you sold your fans by being personal and approachable.

As a tailor/costumer- I can't wait to see what you do with sewing and leather! Make sure to get a sewing machine with all-metal parts on the inside. Mechanical machines (as opposed to computerized) are way easier to maintain, in my opinion. Sail-rite machines are a little picky, but will go through just about everything if you want something REALLY durable. A Pfaff or a Juki (especially an industrial Juki if you want to make BIG things) with the right needle will take you a long ways otherwise. I've had a low-mid end Pfaff (Hobbymatic 935) for a few years now and it's taken everything I've thrown at it fantastically. They have some really great built-in features as well. On the Vlog question- I really like seeing a biweekly update on where you're at! I'd definitely join in a livestream or something as well if I had time. My industry (technical theater) also has a pretty even split of gender distribution, and you're not the first one I've heard complain about finding workwear that fits more diverse body types well. I'm strangely shaped, and even end up doing stuff like tailoring my Carhartts and stuff to help be more comfortable in them. If you felt like looking into it, basic workwear patterns, such as that from Kwik Sew, can often be both a doable project as a way into more technical sewing and a way to make something that satisfies a need better. I'm excited to see how you apply fabric! I love your design and craftsperson aesthetic choices and attention to detail.

Hey Laura! So, I've been enjoying the content as of late! But to answer your question about the vlogs and such, while it would be amazing to have them every single week to see whats up with your life. I, and I'm sure everyone knows that not every week is going to be chalk full of exciting news. So, to keep the vlogs natural, and not forced (y'know, not scrounging for content, but a steady flow of stuff to say). I would do them only when there is something cool that you'd like to share with us. There's a certain samurai out there who tried to keep vlogging every single week. After so many weeks of just spewing out the same thing, he had to cut down his vlog time because there just wasn't enough content to push out. As for your other things, I know pushing a project per week is an immense strain, especially with other things going on. So, really what I'm trying to get at here is, just keep things natural. While there are some out there who want that hard and fast deadline every single week; I personally would love it that much more if you released a video not on a set schedule, but when things are ready to be put out there rather than force content once per week. Loving the natural flow you've got going on, keep it up :)

Always great to catch up with what you're up to. The format is great. It's simple and to the point. As far as a schedule goes, I say do it when you feel like it. I think keeping a schedule for vlogging will make it feel like more of a chore and you'll feel stuck doing it.

Hi Laura! As you requested, hrere are my thoughts on your vlog: - Vlog schedule is not as important as Build shcedule. I think we the viewers will definitely understand if you upload a vlog later to make extra effort on a build video. - I think it would be nice if you could add more regular sections like Record of the Week about something that inspires you. Like showing your scetches or sharing your working process prior to actual building stuff. Or anything else. Keep up the good work!

All people have making things in their DNA. It's one of the most important parts of being human. But some people (many people) lack the experience of making their own things from scratch. They were discouraged from it somewhere in their early lives. If you can change that discouragement to encouragement, that is a great blessing.

I recently bought a sawingmachine and love customizing my cloths and stuff & got into leather too.. :-), thanks. This should be your TED talk! I love the idea of 'making' as a way of customizing your world especially in the mass produced consumer society in which we live. I know what you mean about inspiration Laura. I always find the projects with me as the end user easier to design and make special to me and my needs. I made a wooden mobile phone case designed on the Jimmy DiResta one but I stack cut Walnut, Yew and Lime wood to put my initials/logo into it and sanded it to 2500 grit. It's also handy to have some of your work you can carry around with you. New phone so I'll have to make another case soon.

I totally agree with what you said about being a maker and customizing things to fit your individual needs. My last video was a little letter opener that some people found stupid (someone even said "why not just use a knife?") but its important to remember that we are doing this for ourselves and our own enjoyment. And it's fun to try things out, even if it's not something that we need or if it doesn't work out in the end. Thanks for sharing that thought!

Kind of interesting how things have gone full circle. Before the industrial revolution, everything was custom hand made or second hand. Now most things are mass produced & little is second hand. Mass production is soulless, but low cost & mostly good enough. Hand made is perfect, but high cost in time & learning and most folk don't like working if they can get something good enough. Paradoxically as the tools to make become cheaper the desire to use them in most isn't there. Once in the UK most every house had a Singer treadle sewing machine, now hardly anyone sews. Still I love to make stuff & the more I do the better I get & it feels good!

About the creative process and Its benefit to all of us your videos are a perfect example, look at all the interest generated, yes we all need in our own way to express that creativity and the good is obvious. i always enjoy it, when you post a new video. so i am bit biased on how much vlogs you should post. ;) but believe me. the most important thing is, that you yourself enjoy doing this. don't make it mandatory. just post a new video, when you feel you have gathered enough material, thoughts, ideas etc., that you want to share. daily, weekly, monthly. doesn't matter. cheers!

Hey, about oversized cloths. I got into sewing simply because nothing ever seemed to fit right for me (I'm kinda small). So before being a full fledged "maker" I was already unknowingly kinda starting to become one. You can't easily make small cloths bigger, but you can easily make big cloths smaller. Just get yourself a good sewing machine and bring in the seems a bit more!

Heyyy Laura, really nice to hear about your making again :) cool project at adidas too! I think it's best like @Michael Kieweg said, no schedule. And I would also not go for the live thing as a vlog. You could do that too, but I think that's called a Q&A here on youtube... my only problem with these is that most of the time one of these three is bad: Video, Audio or Latency. Thanks for the update again, and now I'm off to hear that record ;)

Quality not Quantity is key. I'd rather have one densely packed vlog than 3 quickies sprinkled throughout the week. I whole heartedly agree with what you said about personalization. I'm so picky when it comes to what I like in a car. I bought a new car in 2013 & so far I've modified the engine, shifter, body, & suspension to suit me. It would've been much cheaper to buy a sports car, but then it wouldn't be as personalized as my VW Golf.

I like occasional review vlogs from the channels I subscribe too. IMO they should come from a point when the creator feels they need to recap to detail something, not so much by an artificial timeline. I like the portfolio perspective. I think that's one of the magics of YT.

I love your vlogs! I would suggest that you do them when you feel like it. That way you're not forced into putting something together just because you have to. Maybe have a camera set up and ready to go so that if you have a thought, you can record it and then just compile them at the end of the week. As for your clothes. shoulder pads. They were big in the 80's, lol!

hi laura, im writing this with out having finished the video, it just that its a great one, im studying industrial design in argentina, yesterday (friday) i had an exam for wich i was pretty terryfied (is that written well?), and while "studying" i found your videos, and i just love them, you are makeing awsome stuff, and i would love to do a lot of stuff just how you (and all the other makers) are doing it. im writting this in this video specificallh, because of the leather stuff and the personalaizing (that cant be well written), stuff, i just made for myself my first leather backpack, and it just fits in the two subjects i mentioned right before, and i wanted to tell you that you are absolutly right, the feeling of adapting (or makeing) something for your self is awsome, and when people tell you do it lools greate its more satisfying. so just, thank you, and please keep doing your stuff you are amaizing. (i pass the exam your spotify playlist helped me study and relax on the final moments :D)
