I’m going to tell you why I speak and understand 8 languages, and why understanding and speaking a language are two separate things. I’ve been exposed to many languages from a very young age, and thanks to being a curious child and traveling in Europe with my parents, I acquired a lot of them. So, get ready to see my attempts at speaking various languages, including my native language, which I haven’t spoken on this channel yet!

It's refreshing to see a KZfaqr who isn't afraid to admit they have weaknesses in a language. So many KZfaqrs seem to want to pretend that they are fluent in ten or more languages, when the reality for all of us is that most of the languages we pick up are by no means perfect. I am English. I spent three years in Germany and Austria, so I speak German pretty well. I learned French for five years in school, and I speak it pretty poorly, but I understand it. I also understand Spanish, though I cannot really speak it yet, as I do not practice enough. In the future, after I improve my Spanish, I hope to learn Russian.

Soo true I’m bilingual I speak both English and Spanish, currently learning Portuguese, and I noticed how Portuguese, Italian, and French are so similar because there the Romance languages. Meaning they developed from Latin a language that’s dead. Which is why I want to learn all the Romance languages starting from Portuguese then Italian and finally French.

Laura, this video is really inspiring! Watching movies with subtitles is a very good method. It helped me a lot with my English, as a matter of fact, if I hadn't watched English videos with subtitles, probably I would never have reached the C2 level in English. You said "ёлка" and "стоянка такси" without an accent at all!! As for the rhyme I have never heard it before, but it does sound like a real rhyme for kids learning the alphabet!

I´m skiing instructor in Czechia and I teach a lot... A LOT of polish skiers and almost all kids I teach are like sponges for czech language. Everytime I speak with my colleagues while teaching polish kids, the kids are repeating some phrases and asking me what do those phrases mean. I love your content.

Hey, I'm from Poland too! I'm so happy to see talented people like this in my country and I'm reallyyy proud of you. I can speak English very well, I guess. I've learned English all by myself, because the English teacher in my school is just.. not a good teacher? Well, I started "learning" that language since I was about 7-8 years old, it's been almost 5 years (yeah, I'm 11, almost 12) by playing English games like roblox, I've been singing and translating some English songs on the internet and it just got into my "mind" I'm really interested in Spanish, French and Russian, I'd love to learn Chinese as well, because from what I've heard it's the second biggest country after Russia and it would be helpful if I ever met a Chinese person. Anyways, great video Laura! I love your French accent :P Pozdrowionka

@@LauraMaliszewska Btw I'm a native French speaker and your French is very good in terms of vocab and pronunciation. My recommendation is that you work on prosody, avoiding to stress the first syllable of words (because otherwise it sounds like you are insisting on something) and make it more expressive. You can also try to use a less "written" register of speech ("c'est pourquoi" is hardly ever heard orally). Continue comme ça ! ;)

I'm also Polish :D I think this language being our native makes us learn more about other foreign languages since ours is considered to be one of the most difficult. I'd also say English is my second one, and I'm still studying it at the university. The funniest thing about it is that I used to have a more "American" accent and now I have British since it's academic. My third (right now) I'd say is Italian because I'm currently studying it at the uni too. Unfortunately, we don't have many opportunities for practicing speaking but I can communicate on a quite good level. Especially when I'm in Italy and it's required from me somehow. The fourth one is French which I learned for almost 6 years and at some point, I knew it very well. Unfortunately, I don't practice it anymore so I forgot a lot and now I remember only the basics. Btw, I love your French, I wish I could speak like you

@@ralphbaier7793 The hypothesis of linguistic relativity, part of relativism, also known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis /səˌpɪər ˈhwɔːrf/, the Whorf hypothesis, or Whorfianism is a principle claiming that the structure of a language affects its speakers' world view or cognition, and thus people's perceptions are relative to their spoken language. The principle is often defined in one of two versions: the strong hypothesis, which was held by some of the early linguists before World War II,[1] and the weak hypothesis, mostly held by some of the modern linguists.[1] The strong version says that language determines thought and that linguistic categories limit and determine cognitive categories. The weak version says that linguistic categories and usage only influence thought and decisions. The principle had been accepted and then abandoned by linguists during the early 20th century following the changing perceptions of social acceptance for the other especially after World War II.[1] The origin of formulated arguments against the acceptance of linguistic relativity is attributed to Noam Chomsky.[1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistic_relativity

You just speak Polish and English properly and you're also, just able to say basic learnt by heart sentences and random words in other languages or at least you tried to. Know a language or speak a language does mean you are free to communicate and you can be understood and understand easily. I speak Italian Polish and English; that means whenever you talk to me about whatever you want in one of these languages it comes naturally to me to make conversation. NOW: I can write and sing songs in Russian,i can read a newspaper in French and translate it,I can have a small talk in Spanish,I can count to 100 in German, i can swear in Chinese BUT *I DON'T SAY THAT I CAN SPEAK 8 LANGUAGES* (because as I said before I can communicate for real only in 3 of them) SO NEITHER SHOULD YOU. Just because of your credibility if you know what I mean. Beside that, you're nice and funny and also an inspiration to continue to learn and improve.

I didn't read it that way. I took it to mean that she spoke some of the eight languages and understood the rest. If she had written that she speaks eight languages or is fluent in eight languages, then it would be disingenuous.

Hey, Laura! I’m a 43 year old American who speaks English y también hace aproximadamente 26 años estudiaba Japones por 3 años, y aunque lo pronuncio muy bien ya no lo conozco tanto porque para decir la verdad no hice mi tarea, más bien, desde 24 años aprendí Español y con esto soy bilingue. Я сейчас изучаю только последние семьдесят семь дней, так что у меня не очень хорошо получается! But I think it’s awesome what you’re doing, I hope your channel explodes, and maybe I can learn Polish and Czech from you after I get better at Russian? I also need to really brush up on my nihongo... tsukoshi hanashimasu! :) I would love to learn Korean, too. My brother-in-law is from Hyderabad and speaks numerous languages and I hope he will teach me Hindi and Telegu, but my only real opportunities other than that are learning online. I don’t speak them, but understand fairly well Italian, Portuguese, and French, in descending order, and since my ancestry is old English and German I am interested in those languages as well. Anyway, you’re awesome! Sigue adelante, y espero que seamos amigos! Пока пока!

I lived in eastern Canada for two years, spoke French a fair amount of the time (granted there was the Québécois dialect that was tricky sometimes), and I could understand some Spanish from immigrants and co-workers. That experience inspired me to try to dabble in other languages. Even if you don't get anywhere near fluent, at least you have some cultural insight. Keep it up, Laura! 😁

Cupcake Gamer I’m french so that I can explain you the difference between é and è even if it’s really complicated because it’s about the pronunciation. The é it’s like the word « et » or « pied » in french ( I hope you can understand what I try to say bc it isn’t really clear ) nonetheless the è it’s more like when you pronounce the letter R in french. So in a way you both right 😊

I have no clue why many ppl would think it was a clickbait. As she already stated her proficiency level for each language, I don't see there's an issue of saying she knows a language as long as she's able to use that language for communication. After all, no one can utterly excel at a language/skill in the world. Besides, It's impossible for one to have 8 languages at native level. Even Chinese is my native language, there's still a huge room for improvement. Why don't we just encourage someone who embraces different culture and puts the effort into learning several languages?
