Love the transformation, but i feel it would be better to make the door swing on the right against the wall rather than against the table. This will make the room look bigger and more open. Hope i was of some help. Keep doing the great job.

Thank you! I would love to but sadly it's a job I can't do myself (they are so heavy!). When we come to extend we will definitely look at changing the door positions 😄

Apparently doors swinging into a room rather than against the wall was historically done both for privacy (giving those in the room a few seconds time to prepare for visitors), but also a bit of drama as the room is revealed as the door opens.

I agree the table should be centered I. The room. It’s odd to have your back to the room facing a wall when you eat when you have so much other beauty to behold in the room.

Some people have the reflex to push all the furniture against the walls to make more space, but it actually makes it seem more cramped. I agree that the table needs to be in the centre of the room.

Laura Melhuish-Sprague Bravo at your patience cleaning those nicotine stains off the the ceiling & the walls. A beautiful transformation overall and agree with numerous comments about not painting the small wood unit, it is very pretty as it is and suits the room perfectly ☺️

Ughhh! I’m in love with the wall color. Many people these days are afraid of adding color and just go for plain, white walls which I’m not the biggest fan of. It’s nice to see something that is definitely unique but still true to the home. Beautiful job💛

I'd put the table in the middle of the room, the seating area in there would look weird and it'd also be unnecessary because you already have a living room where to sit in cushy chairs. Wonderful temporary reno, came out real nice😄

Amazing. I thought the dark colour would make the room feel very small, but it did not turn out that way. You trully have a keen eye for interior design! The end result is stunning for it only being a temporary room. I woud leave the small chest of drawers in the finish it is right now, it works really well with colour on the walls and the mirror. Found your channel randomly while searching for a tutorial on getting rid of nicotine staining/smell as my family has also moved into a home that was originally owned by people who smoked heavily indoors. This video was very inspiring and I absolutely love watching all of your renovations.

It looks absolutely gorgeous! I wasn't sure about the dark colour but you absolutely pulled it off. I wouldn't put a burning candle into a shelf though - at least if it's a real one. LED candle would work just fine.

“Back in the day” everyone smoked in the house, at work, on planes. It seems so crazy now. I never smoked but worry about the 2nd hand smoke that I’ve been around for years.

My husband and I tackled a room where the owners had smoked for 20 plus years and the walls were covered in nicotine. We were getting ready to have professional painters come in and paint the walls but before the painting began we washed the walls because there was no way we were going to try to paint over all that sticky nicotine. To our amazement, when they were clean our walls were absolutely beautiful...no painting was necessary. I should say that we have no children and we have always been extremely careful with our house and everything in it and once they are clean things pretty much just stay clean. About 20 years have passed since our walls were washed and they STILL have not been painted, nor do they NEED to be painted. Amazing what a little soap and water and elbow grease did for those walls!

The best word for this room makeover is, charming. It is simply charming. I am so accustom to seeing makeovers where people redo every nook with a minimalist white look. This is so full of character and charm. Nicely done!

I was so surprised how well this turned out! Lovely 😊 As far as the small dresser I say leave it as is and just finished sanding off the old painted sides. The lighter tone that it is now plays lovely in the room. Also the seating area sounds like a marvelous addition just try not to over crowd the space.

I just finished watching your kitchen reno and loveddd your style. I'm so happy to see that carry into this soaring dining room. All I see are comments about the table needing to be centered, but I personally like that you took a risk and didn't center it. I also love moody and darker dining rooms, I'm so over seeing everyone paint every. single. room. in their home white! This color is stunning.

This was an incredible transformation! Goes to show if you’re willing to put some elbow grease in, you can get unreal results. This showed me really well how you can have tons of dark elements in the room and as long as you have some light elements to make it pop (and sunlight helps) it will look nice and light overall! You guys should feel super proud about this, seriously

I feel the same. My bf's mom smoke inside their house and all of their clothes, towels and even my shirt would smell of nicotine. So I always need to wash all my clothes and air dry my bag when i get home from seeing them 🤮

I like the chest lighter. It really pops against the dark walls. Also the whole fireplace/giant mirror is so grand looking! I think the dining table would look good in the center of the room and then have a little love seat against the fireplace wall in the nook by the window and a tv on the opposite wall so you can’t see it when you walk in. What a gorgeous room though. So beautiful and classic

OMG, what a stunning transformation you guys. You have fabulous taste. I love the addition of the mantelpiece in white and keeping that beautiful ceiling paper was genius. I would definitely keep the little chest of drawers pale, it mimics the dining table and picks up the tones in the sisal rug. Oh I can't wait for more Laura and Ollie. I loveeee the darkness of the room because there’s already a lot of natural light coming in. So the dark wall and floor works perfectly but the dining table would look event more perfect in the middle of the room.

What an amazing transformation! For a temporary fix, it looks like something I'd want to keep forever. I'm especially a fan of all the secondhand and thrifted finds! I think a slim office table would look good next to the shelves. I would also go glamorous and paint the side cabinet same as the mirror. I love the mirror.
