Welcome to the Laurel Mall! This dead mall is now in retirement, and living on as a flea market now! The management here have done an incredible job keeping this mall relevant for the community, and I'm impressed with how they've done.

Metzler's at Laurel Mall was a branch of the beloved downtown Uniontown department store. Metzler's was a class operation and operated a full line, five floor department store well into the late 1980s. The Laurel Mall store lasted a few years after downtown closed. Quality merchandise and excellent service--both sadly missing in retail today.

Not many kids of today will know the joy of going to the mall on the weekends with friends, watching a movie in a theater attached to a mall, playing in the mall arcade, eating at the mall food court & coming home with something bought from one of their favorite stores, all in one stop. I am so glad I discovered your channel. Your expeditions bring back so many memories for me. I only know of one mall from my teenage years that is still flourishing & that is the University Mall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Not only was this video amazing with the drone footage but with the outside mall walk and your voice over input was hilarious. On the other end this mall is beautiful and is full of charm I hope for more of it to re-open and with the current mall owners It may happen. Hi Sal, I have many relatives that live in this area. It was so great to see you review this mall I visited many times as a kid! Sadly, Connelsville has been on the decline for literal decades after much of the industry left in the 80s and 90s. Pechins is still open but moved locations to it's more downtown former express location, which has since grown and been renovated significantly. It had great prices and a decent bakery, but aesthetically looked like an Ollie's Bargain Bin on the inside. There used to be a pizza and sub restaurant in the mall too. I'm glad it got some recognition! If you're looking for more dying malls in PA, check out the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage. It has a wing that is still original to the mall and somehow has barely survived COVID. Best of luck on your YT journey!

Love the history (old commercials and the subject analysis / narrative), the "voice-over to the voice-over", the footage (drone, walking, stills)...just amazing. I used to work at the movie theater around '08. I'm pretty sure the orange guards on the doors were there then too. I have vague memories of putting them on the doors before closing. I can remember cleaning those carpets too. Seeing everything in disrepair now is heartbreaking. There are so many memories of late night sign changes or finding old posters in the back room. I once deep cleaned the bathrooms and found a ticket stub for the Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" behind a trash box. I experienced the end credits of Ironman and the start of the MCU at a midnight screening with a packed theater in that place. I can clearly remember hearing the audience reaction through the doors. It was the same year that we did a special screening for The Dark Knight. The music system in the theaters and projectors had just been replaced with new digital ones. Movie soundtracks were constantly looping in the theaters 24/7. I can still hear the Indiana Jones theme play as I'm trying to clean. Even back then though we all knew the place was on its last legs. There were promises of a new theater being built but none of that ever happened. I've also heard rumors of asbestos in the walls but I never saw any confirmation of it. Well, thanks for letting me relive those weird times again.

I used to work on a hazmat team, was a 9/11 responder, etc. Our company did remediation projects at malls, the ones that had the detached "auto centers" repair shops. I've probably been to every mall east of the Mississippi. Probably didn't visit most of these spots, except for a quick run into the food court for lunch. Great video as always, Sal!

yes it is, and amazing that the house the original store started in is still standing after the inferno of the big store going down next to it, the Sisters of Charity of Rendu Services still use it as their offices and food pantry in Dunbar. Bro I’m from this area , greatest flea market ever . I’ve bought so many retro games and cds from this mall it’s not even funny. I used to know the old dude who ran the gaming store. Also it’s right next to one of the greatest jobs I’ve had (Universal Pressure Pumping) I used to go to Big Mike’s BBQ as well right around the corner from the mall. Also they used to have pechins a super market that sold so much good home made food out the deli. The Rural King was a Ames where my mom bought my 1st N64. This places holds plenty of memories between work, hanging out at the mall also had a movie theater too that had all the best movies .

Hi Sal, I have been subscribed to your channel for a couple of years now and I rarely make comments, but I love your walk throughs and back history of Malls. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and the closest Mall to me was about a 20 minute drive, so it was always a big deal to "Lets Go To The Mall" ( thank you Robin Sparkles ) and just hang out. So I always get a tingle of nostalgia watching your videos. But, but, but, ......Dude...........I LOVE your snarky narration track just giving yourself shit. Please do that more often. Very funny stuff. And I'm not sure, but I think you get madder and madder at yourself as the video continues. :) Oh, and always love the sponsored by commercials . Keep up the good work. Brad

Behind that walled off area was actually Rural King. Rural King bought part of the mall concourse and expanded into it. In fact, if you would've have walked into Rural King, you would've seen the original mall entrance that Murphy's/Ames had AND where the original concourse was. The floor tile and skylights left over from the mall concourse are still in that area of Rural King. At least that was the case when I last visited in February 2020. I had to take pictures inside that area of Rural King so I could compare them to existing pictures of the Murphy's/Ames concourse so I could get my bearings. Dollar Tree occupies what was Thrift Drug/Eckerd and the Terrace Inn.

This brings back memories, I worked at the theater until it closed. And had been going there for decades. The Firehouse restaurant was in between the grocery store and the beer distributor that took over Wards auto dept. and probably better you walked in the back, your car would have been swallowed by the multiple potholes.the locks on the doors were out there after the theater was broken into and the arcade machines money was stolen.

Jack Black is truly a great actor. He can do it all. The movie Bernie and that other one where he portrays that Ponzi scheme polka singer are off the charts. Very underated. Seems like a guy who would be fun to hang with too.
