It's incredible how well loved Laurel and Hardy still are all around the world. There again not only were they good they were the best.

Probably because in their everyday lives, they were accessible to their doting fans, and were true gentlemen. How many times would they have had total strangers coming up to them, and asking for an autograph. Even after Ollies death, Stan would answer every fans letter personally, not getting his press secretary to do it for him. They were both born and belonged to a different era, when stars behaved with great courtesy towards admiring fans. This is why Stan & Ollie are still held in very high regard.

True stars like Laurel and Hardy are humble and not arrogant at all.

I always remember around school holidays and Christmas time....laurel and hardy and the Marx brothers were shown every morning for about 2 /3 weeks. I used to get up early to watch them and remember sitting there at around 7 0'clock in the morning killing myself laughing and this was around 1973. It was a big part to the build up to Christmas. I was around 9 years old. Terrific stuff.

I've loved Laurel and Hardy (and all Hal Roach productions) since as far back as can remember. To this day I regularly watch them. As everyone says, it wasn't their genius of comedy alone. It was watching two wonderful people having fun. That came through on every movie they made. Exceptional people. By the way, "Son's Of The Desert" is my favorite, although I love all their work.

Laurel and Hardy started it all for comedy duo’s like Abbott and Costello, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Sanford & Son, Perfect Strangers and a ton of different sitcoms. I think they inspired even the musical duo’s like Hall & Oates etc. They even inspired duo’s like the Duke Boys, Starsky & Hutch, Cagney & Lacey. They basically influenced the producers of all these entertainers to put together an act with two people , working as partners, entertaining an audience for whatever reason. Laurel and Hardy are the pioneers of the comedy duo. Oh, how can I forget Alan Hale and Bob Denver as Skipper & Gilligan.

Every year in October there is a Laurel and Hardy festival at the foot of the "Music Box" stairs in Silverlake (LA). The small park across from the stairs is called Laurel and Hardy Park.

Thanks for the locations. I found the location of one of the final scenes of one of the Chaplin greats, "The Kid," just by going around and looking. The scene where the truck driving the Kid away to the orphanage, turns the corner onto a dirt road. That dirt road is now the famous "Olvera Street" in downtown LA, near the old train station. When Charlie filmed there, the Street was just a rundown dirt road. In the mid 1930's, they renovated all of it and turned it into what it is today.

I love this. I think L&H did some set locations near Modjeska Canyon down in Orange County? I watch L&H also for the set locations, which show what LA used to look like. There was some beautiful land back then, exquisite, sad for me to see that destroyed. That Westend Hotel looks like bad luckville. Oops, Oliver never said "a fine mess," it was "another nice mess." I am fascinated with Mexican American actress Herlinda Loredo. She worked with them on their Spanish language marketing. She is buried in southeast LA. Her papa was a shoemaker in downtown LA. She shared a house with her sister near LA college.

Ive been to the Laurel and Hardy museum in Cumbria UK. That's a must for any L & H fan
@peterlewis35403 жыл бұрын
I quite agree, but for such a famous son of Ulverston, the museum was very low key, and being privately owned and run, there was very little input or help from the local Cumbrian council. Maybe because visitors to the museum are of a certain age, who were brought up on L&H movies. Their now sadly almost forgotten, never re shown on UK television, which is a huge travesty
